I’ve been searching for nearly 10 years for a nicely toned, minimally marked choice AU example of an 1839-O half dolllar, and I finally found it!! They are especially difficult IMO to find with nice surfaces and beautiful toning.
I was fortunate enough to acquire this coin through Rare Coins of New Hampshire last month in an old fatty NGC AU55 CAC holder and crossed it to PCGS 55 at FUN last week.
I want to thank Warren Mills and Lou at RCNH, not only for this coin but for so much over the years with helping me select choice pieces for my collection.

Wow! Congrats! The issue is tough enough as it is; the eye appeal is incredible.
PCGS got it wrong..... did you submit it in the old holder?
Super attractive

She's a beauty! ...and undergraded in my opinion.

Looks like a 58 with the detail. I'm very happy with my 45 I got years ago too, that issue is very tough to find nice.

Truly exceptional! Well done!
Must needed a smidge more luster to garnish a 58........hmmm.
Very nice though.
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

It has everything you could want in an AU.

Wow....wow....wow.
That's an attention getter, congrats!
You suck. Big time!😍
Love the peripheral die crack. Great coin.
Beautiful. Moderate to late reverse die state.
That is a beauty!
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
I thought about leaving it in the old NGC holder, but by the end of first day of the show decided to try and cross it. You can’t tell from the pics but it definitely has exceptional luster for the grade and IMO has a shot at upgrading to 58. Perhaps I’ll try to upgrade it down the road. Till then I’ll just enjoy it as is.
Dave
Very nice and they ARE extremely difficult to find in the right grade with a great look.
Good job!
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Fabulous looking coin! These are tough as all get-out to find attractive, original and with meat. Over the last 25-years I have managed to squirrel away a hoard of two (yes, two!) EF pieces for myself that I just couldn't bring myself to sell.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Woah... very very nice.
Thanks for showing me your 1839-O at the show. She is a lovely example, that I suspect might be deserving of a higher grade. I didn't realize how long you were looking for me. Perhaps if you weren't such a perfectionist!
I think that's a gorgeous piece. Patience paid off!
Amazing coin, and all know I'm not one for hyperbole. Really special.
Coingrats!

Very Nice!
Those are some clean surfaces for an AU. Congrats!
Thanks for the compliment and for taking the time to look at her, GoBust. Coming from you, that’s quite reassuring!
It’s always great seeing you and your mind boggling coins at these shows....even if they are just your dupes!
Dave
I'm a picky bastard and even I'd buy that one all day long.
I would buy 55's like yours all day long if they looked like that.
Maybe it's the crispness of the picture but the 39-o looks way more like a 60 or 62.

No; you found the perfect 1839-O for MY collection.
Nice pickup. Warren & his firm RCNH are the best. Too bad many here don't take advantage of his service & talent.
Love the coin and your story.
Is it magnetic?
The mint mark is doubled - is that the norm for this type?
What a great looking piece!!!

My coin is a GR-1 which is a common variety for the 1839-O, and I believe all GR-1’s have doubling of the mint mark.
Dave
That's a coin that was worth the wait. Congrats !
That coin is absolutely a stunner!
Now, that would go nicely into my 1839 Coins in Commerce Set if you ever want to sell.

Holy cow that’s GORGEOUS! Congratulations on such a beautiful piece for your collection. I’m envious
Thanks Joe! Appreciate the compliment.
And it was a pleasure meeting you at FUN. I saw you when you got to the PCGS table with your coins that had been in the fire and Heather Boyd greeted you.
I’m so happy you and your family got through that awful tragedy and are getting back on your feet.
Wishing you well Joe!
Dave
Great looking coin
Stunning!
Pretty coin.
