The Fleet Glossey is so rare that it isnt in the pop report yet
WOW the 89 Fleer Glossy pop is up to 108. In 2011 when I hit one it was number 32.
PSA has not recognized this variant yet. In due time...

Fleet glossy is really just a printing flaw but for some reason considered an error. I can’t figure it out either why some printing flaws are considered variations and others just screw ups .. quite the conundrum
I am still not sure what the criteria is, but I think these are the big 3. Toss in the Fleer Glossy to make it 4. Donruss base to make it #5.
I love Tiffany.

Yeah, the Tiffany in PSA 10 would be the one. It will run about $1,500 on eBay. Or find a nice 9 for about $300. It may take a while to find a nice centered one in a 9 or 10. The one you refer to must be the one listed by PWCC. It has some tilt issues.

Back in 89 my budget was more in the realm of donruss or score (I was in the 4th grade). I was still a couple years away from choosing between Frank Thomas or Jr., that was the big call I made in 1991.
Anyway, Score has always held a place in my heart since the factory set was my birthday gift for a few years as a youngster. Turns out that Score was damn good at their card images. These are my favorites from 89. I really need to smile like this every day.!

If you are collecting all of Griffey's major 1989 rookies in PSA 10, do you include the Head's up and Mothers Cookies RCs? I included the update cards, boxed sets, tiffany/glossy and the 2 Classic cards. There were all available nationwide.

This should cover all the cards issued in 1989 that PSA is grading now.
Edit: Added the last 2 on the "Others" section and moved the Mother's hand cut cards to the "Food Issues" section. I did not include the 1989 Starting Lineup card since it was actually issued in 1990. There are a handful of other 1989 cards which PSA no longer grades, they are the 5 different 1989 PACIFIC CARDS & COMICS cards and 1989 FRANKLIN B.B.CARMELS. There are also 9 1988-89 STAR NOVA EDITION cards if you want to include those, those are being graded but technically from 1988.
Edit 2: one of the starting lineup cards should be a 1989 release. There is one with only partial 1989 stats on the back.

After trying to wrap my head around the variations that exist today with the Aaron Judge and Juan Soto threads, Griffey's rookie list seems adorably short, even with the Star cards.
Thanks for the list. I have the main tier done. I was on the fence about the Mothers cards. They aren't especially attractive so I haven't got excited enough to chase them.
They were thur home shopping thing QVC I believe
I feel the same way about the Star cards, but I recently gave in.

Aren't those actually 1990? The B&W bordered cards that came in those packages had complete 1989 stats IIRC from my Larkin collection.
It was issued in 1990. Package included a 1990 card of Griffey and card pictured which depicted him in his rookie year. All starting lineups in all sports that year had this.

What is the difference between the # 3’s in the 1989 Mother’s Cookies Ken Griffey Jr set? One says “Mariners” and the other says “bat on left shoulder”, but when viewing the card, I see no difference. Was this a “flip variation” rather than a card variation?
Different cards. Mariners card was from the Mariners team set.

were mothers cookies only sold on the west coast? I never remember seeing them out east

They were originally distributed at a card show at the kingdome. Then they were only available in specially marked packages in Washington state and Oregon.

I ate the Ken Griffey jr. chocolate back in 1989 and it was a PSA 2 in flavour, at best.
