    The first coin i bought for my collection and still my favorite. It got me into the hobby and it is cool from many angles (rarity, color, 18th century, die crack...).

    Splendid!

    It’s always hard for me to pick a “favorite.” So I’ll offer the “most unexpected” purchase of 2018. Happy New Year, one and all!

    A date set is only 23 coins (realistically 18 or 78%)
    Most of us don't do the last 5
    Nice examples can be had for less than 2X melt value since the series doesn't seem to be that popular.
    Just saying... ;)

    The 1853-O is a stunner. I can see why it is your favorite. Great strike and eye appeal. Would be my favorite also if it was in my collection.

    @Wahoo554 Your 1798 $5 has beautiful original skin. I love it. I'm a sucker for early crusty U.S. gold.

    @Regulated You know that's one of my favorites. I am so glad you are finally showing that one off.

    @david3142 Beautiful Jefferson Nickel!!

    What I love about this thread, is that there is so much variety here. All coins are welcome to be posted here. I am so thankful that this thread has become so successful (in my eyes), happy new years to all!

    It's very hard to pick a favorite child, but I'll give it a try:

    Colosseum sestertius, minted for the inaugural games held at the Colosseum:

    Kimon dekadrachm, the peak of art in ancient Greece, the diameter of a Morgan dollar but almost 2x as heavy:

    An aureus of Domitian featuring the founding myth of Rome, Romulus and Remus, which was buried under the ash of Mount Vesuvius at Pompeii until its excavation in 1895:

    Athens gold diobol, minted from the gold of melted down statues housed in the Parthenon for Athens to pay for its war with Sparta:

    What a remarkable collection. I love the toning on the Romulus and Remus piece. Outstanding coins.
