Nice coin... I do not think I have any coins from hoards.... except my own hoard I know some collectors pursue such coins, so there should be some further replies. Cheers, RickO
This penny of Edward I is from the London mint and is ex. Llanddona Hoard, Anglesey, Wales
The coins of the Llanddona hoard were found on a stretch of beach that was used as a shortcut at low tide. They were discovered between a layer of shells and sand. One (or more) pieces had fabric clinging to them.
Believed to be from a single deposit, the hoard dates to sometime in the late 1320s to early 1330s.
Here's a little more information about the hoard and an image to show what this piece might have looked like before 600 plus years of improper handling and storage.
The Llanddona Hoard of Edward I-II Pennies
from the Isle of Anglesey, Wales
Discovered with the aid of metal
detectors on Llanddona Beach, Red
Wharf Bay between September 1999
and August 2006. Almost 1000 silver
coins were recovered, English pennies
of Edward I-II from various mints, Irish
Pennies of Edward I, Scottish Sterlings
of Alexander III and John Baliol and
various Continental Esterlins from
the Low Countries.

Just a random note for you, but the one in the lower left shouldn't have a numbered card as it isn't an "UNCIRCULATED" type holder. It should have the two card setup as the one above it does.
Nice group of GSA's, nonetheless.
Nice catch.............the card is for an 84 and the coin is an 83
And yes............................Nice group of GSA's, nonetheless.
I've been dispersing mine for 4 years now. I wish I would've thought about custom labels...

I may have mixed those cards by accident or bought them that way, I really only looked at the coins themselves.
If the current owner wants to send them all back for a full refund I will gladly provide that, but doubt it will happen, since I sold those a little low in the first place.
@1630Boston.....Thank you for the JOG..... .... Of course...Now I remember. In fact, when I got to my cabinet today, I will give it a special caress... Cheers, RickO
Do darkside shipwreck coins count as a hoard? This 1886/76 Guanajuato 8R is one of an estimated million or so Mexican Cap & Rays 8 Reales that went down with the USS Charleston, the first steel vessel lost by the United States Navy, when she was grounded on an uncharted reef near Camiguin Island north of Luzon on November 2, 1899. Previously, she had been responsible for securing Guam without firing a shot upon the outbreak of the Spanish-American War.
Don't worry folks- I ran out of die 4's years ago. There were 12 total.

Nice coin, but shame on NGC for that ridiculous, made-up "Colosseum Hoard" marketing ploy. It is, to the best of my knowledge, purely invented on their part. The coins with these labels span many different centuries, which would be highly unlikely for a genuine hoard. (I'm not saying anything against the coins themselves- but that particular NGC pedigree, like their "Seven Hills Hoard" one, is fictitious and I daresay misleading to the point of being downright unethical.)
If anyone has any historical or archaeological information to refute this, I welcome it. But I have found it nearly impossible to discover anything that corroborates the existence of a real "Colosseum Hoard" that these hundreds if not thousands of widely varied types came from.
I bought these more for the novelty of it; however, the Washie's I like to collect at MS66 grade so hoard did not matter on that one- was more of a nostalgic bonus.

Awesome. Known shipwreck provenance counts exactly the same as a buried land hoard in my book.
I wanted an early and later $20 for my California Gold set. Instead of just finding coins to fill holes, I tried to find special coins and shipwreck / hoard coins fit nicely.
ex. S.S. Republic. There was only a single mint state 1855-S double eagle recovered from the S.S. Republic. This AU58 coin with CAC approval has remaining luster and without any significant marks. It is undoubtedly one the nicest from the shipwreck.

(PCGS XF45)
United States: copper large cent, Coronet type, 1818; likely from the Randall Hoard
