TrueView Template Changes
UPDATE: We've deployed our new template!
If you have any questions about it please let us know in this thread.
ORIGINAL POST:
Hi All
Our current PCGS TrueView template dates back to 2011, which was a slightly modified branding of the original 2005 version. Our branding has changed quite a bit in that time, and it needs to be updated. Our marketing team designer has mocked up some potential replacements, and your feedback is welcome. We have a new traditional white background template, and also a black background template (although I'm not sure how we might implement this).
If you have any other ideas or changes you might want to see, please let us know.
Thanks
Phil

I am curious why a grading company doesn’t put the grade on the TrueView? 😜
He who knows he has enough is rich.
Black with the grade would be my choice.
I like keeping things uniform, so I like the white one. However having the choice would be nice to please everyone.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I like both of them, being able to choose would be nice.
I prefer the white background and with a grade, please.

I too would like to see a grade on them.
For that specific Peace Dollar, I like the black background, makes the coin pop more in my opinion.
Any chance you can post both backgrounds with a nice white Proof Cam/DCam coin as well as an example of say a dark chocolate brown Large Cent. I have a feeling darker coins would present with the white background better, while brighter/shinier coins would benefit from the black.

does having both as an option exist. the photograph of the coin is the place where the cost exists, not the background.... give both to the buyer

I like the white background. having the grade posted on the true view would be phenomenal!
Well, I don't know, but if you don't need that Peace dollar any more, she can come live with me.
Actually, I think gold looks best on a black background, most everything else on white. I'll admit this coin looks great on black. I agree with everyone else, please put the grade somewhere.
It might be insightful to show us both options for a few different coins (rainbow Morgan, lustrous gold, circulated silver). Different coins pop on different backgrounds.
Yes grade on the TV
Agree. I never understood why they couldn’t put a grade on it.
Probably trying to drive more traffic to the website...
That is such a nice Peace Dollar...MS67?

—A choice is preferred. Add a column on the submission form to select the color.
—Add grade to the TV.
Thanks for asking for forumite’s input.
White Background w/the Grade...
White background with grade!
Instagram
A choice of background would be nice, along with the grade. I like black better for everything except copper.
White background w/o grade is my preference and not just for the sake of uniformity. There is plenty of information (necessary) already on the TrueView, both existing and proposed. I'm never a fan of distractions on a coin image and the grade would be one thing too many to add to a professional image.
If I remember correctly Phil wasn't the black background kicked around before?

White for non color coins and black for coins with color.
I would choose the white background WITH A GRADE ON IT Thanks Phil!
I like the logo/white background. Can you squeeze in the grade and cert? Allow for a black background selection on the TrueView page instead of max image.
White background .. esp in the registries where mixing in black background thumbs will look like missing teeth
Why change the cert number font? I liked the old font.
I would try to change as little as possible unless you plan on RE doing the millions of Trueviews already in the database.
Its better to have a consistent uniform look rather than changing the template every few years on a whim.
Its the difference between looking professional vs looking like an absolute mess

White background, without the drop shadow. Add the grade if reasonable to do given the workflow. Make sure the logo and product name comply with trademark standards. ("True View" cannot be copyright, but "TruVu" or some variation can be copyright as well as registered as a trademark for your photo product.)
I am too distracted by the Peace Dollar.
My Early Large Cents
It would be nice if you kept the same (sorta goofy) font for your numerals.
I like black, but having the choice would be nice. And I prefer no grade like it is.
I think no grade makes it more like art. Having a grade is more like cert verification. It depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
The benefit of having the grade is if you have the image and the cert no longer verifies, you still have the grade.
White and black are good for different coins and looks. It's good to have a choice. Cert verification supports multiple images now so you could cycle through white and black backgrounds.
Overall, I think it's good to update as ATS is ramping up their PhotoVision service.
I agree with adding the grade. Offer the choice of either background.
On my screen the Peace dollar looks like a sand blast proof attempt
gone bad. Lustrous but very grainy.
Really difficult to choose, but would select white background, with no grade.
Thanks for asking!

I think I like the current fonts better than the new ones, especially for the "Verify the authenticity of this image. . ." text at the bottom, and for some reason I don't like the change from "Certificate No." to "Certificate Number." I also like the current logo at the top, the new one is a little distracting. I do like the new watermarked background better though.
Could the black background with logo/text could be added as a download option to the http://images.pcgs.com//trueview/xxxxxxxx page for those who want to use it, rather than being used as a standard setting?

should be able to make a choice on background and view grade
I like the black. I think it makes the coins pop more.
Not a fan of the white background. Draws my eyes to it more than I would want.
Also, I wouldn't like the white background with a blast white silver coin.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
It would be nice if prior TrueViews could be updated on request or via the website.
After the update you can then offer the "Classic" TrueView....
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I hope this is an early april fools joke
I think this would be a way to keep just about everyone happy; keep all of the options available; white and/or black background, with or without grade.

white background without a doubt.
and no grade showing lets the coin speak for itself. e.g. , who cares what our Host values/grades the Peace Dollar at in the OP - she is beautiful
White background w/ grade.
Option to choose between B/W ..... and W/O grade to keep it streamlined
Whatever you do, just remember coin collectors like things uniform. We're an OC bunch.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I like the white background w/o having a grade listed on the photo... keep 'em looking like the many TV photos I already have... as much as possible.

For those wanting grades on TruViews, check this page and see if you recognize the same coin many times with 3 different grades...

I wouldn't mind the coins over a California sunset wallpaper
I'm not sure I like the new font, but would ask for something similar to the below TV (light blue and white sort of gradient). Also as several others have noted - the grade would be nice
What would really be cool is adding an option for the user under the registry setting like where you can select to use TV or not. The selecting the background color you choose, maybe white, black and a variant of the below light blue

Both, add a column on the submission form to select the color.
Add the grade to the TV.
If you do decide to add the Grade to the TrueView ... you need to have an AUTOMATED mechanism to REDO all the various sized TV photos in the database should the owner submit the coin for RECONSIDERATION and the grade changes.
I understand why not adding the grade has been the standard for so many years since it's simpler and easier.

I can go either way on the background color. To answer the grade/no grade question I think a compromise could be to make the certificate number (or a "click here for verification" icon) an overlay image of some sort that would link to the certificate verification page. I don't know if that's possible from a programming perspective or not, but it would satisfy me to be able to link to the certificate verification page rather than needing to type in the certificate number on a separate tab.
