Moneywise, and rarity makes the 43 copper the easy choice.

Kind of a no brainer.
I'll see your copper '43 and raise you with an aluminum '43 cent. Yeah Baby!! (I'm with them)

Would you rather find a classic rarity like this '43-S, or discover something new that's even rarer?

I’m all in w/a 1944 steelie.
Oops! The dreaded PENNY. Must be British.

Penny was once a VERY respected lady here...until it was discovered she was a BRIT! A spy in plain copper and wrong forum. Oh the humanity!!
Good catch @BustDMs!
sry i am 14 and just started coin collecting so i dont know what everything is called yet
1943 copper is much scarcer.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Not a knock on you at all. Just an old habit of referring to our coins as cents as noted on the reverse. We rejected penny during colonial times as it was an old British term.
Keep havin’ fun. Glad your participating.

When one considers that the proceeds from selling one 1943 copper would buy two rolls of 1909 SVDB's the choice is clear.
484,000 mintage for 1909 SVDB. Less than 20? known 1943 coppers.

Ditto -- just having fun! Many, many collectors refer to them as "pennys" so no biggie. Welcome!!
So 14? Got a copy of the Redbook? That's the best guide for starters. What do you have for reference material? How did you start collecting?
For me I want the 1909 S vdb. I reason it this way... To complete my Lincoln set I need the 1909 S VDB, but I don't feel the set would be incomplete or lacking without a '43 copper.
I get the logic of selling the rarer to buy the other, but I'm answering as to which coin I desire more to be in my collection.
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
I am not greedy. A well cireculated banged up S VDB will suite me just fine and dandy.
@coinzzz Welcome to the US Coin forums.
One is far more valuable than the other so the poll results don't surprise me at all.

Find it, get it slabbed, get it sold. Take a European or English vacation and then buy some gold.
............or as many 09-S V.D.B.s as you can get your hands on.

Welcome to the Board ... and with an odd poll to boot!
Roughly translated ... would you rather find $1,000 or $200,000?

We need a new poll---Would you rather find an 1804 silver dollar or a 1881-S silver dollar?

I'd rather find the '09-S VDB.
Only because the copper '43 is too elusive. I wore my eyes out searching, anyway.

Since I would sell either one if I found it, I would go for the bigger payday.
I'd rather find a 1918/7-D or a 1916/16 Buff.
I'd even take a 3 Legger.
Pete
I say I would rather find a 1943 copper cent now but back in the day when I was 14, I would have said 1909 SVDB. SVDB was the holy grail. I don't ever recall really looking for 1943 copper cents in all the rolls I searched. 1943 steel pennies were almost impossible to find. I think the banker took them for himself as they came in.

@coinzzz....Welcome aboard.....

As to the poll, for me, it would be the '43 copper cent....And yes, I would sell that one.
Perhaps I would buy a single nice slabbed 1909-S VDB. But it is the nice gold that has been so elusive. I have a touch of nice gold, but nowhere near enough.
As to the poll, for me, it would be the '43 copper cent....And yes, I would sell that one.
Not me. It would be the new centerpiece of my penny collection. My centerpiece now is an ultra-rare IHC dated "7" to give you an idea how big a deal finding a 1943 copper penny would be to me.

You should run that one by the Penny Lady.
Actually, the composition of pennies or cents, whatever you want to call them, is not copper but rather bronze.

Not always true. The early large cents were struck from copper. Also, cents struck in the later years of WWII were struck from salvaged brass shell casings. Check PCGS Coin Facts.

Do you think The Penny Lady should change her handle to The Cent Lady?

I much prefer the Cent of a Lady
Then I guess it would make a lot of "Cents" if you bought a Double Eagle.
