Any thoughts on these dollars?

Greetings! It’s been many years that I’ve been absent from collecting, but I have an opportunity to acquire some coins from a friend and wanted to reach out to the experts here for any and all opinions. I’ve forgotten more than I know, having only been a casual collector, so really, anything that jumps out at you would be extremely helpful. From my bit of research, I’ve some concerns about the lettering on one of the coins. The word Liberty just looks wrong and I’m unable to find examples that look quite like it. Admittedly, I haven’t done much research yet, but would like to get a head start here. Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome back to the hobby, sir, and I hope that you posted those here before buying them. They are not only fakes, they're painfully BAD fakes.

Best arm yourself with a magnet if you have many more friends with coins

These are presumably modern counterfeits so the provenance can't go back very far before you hit China.

The seller is trying to off-load them. If this is the best the seller has then I would leave it to ones imagination on the other items.

As mentioned previously bring a magnet to the next “showing.”

Thanks! I didn’t buy them yet and won’t, obviously, at this point. The seller is not a bad guy, really just clueless actually about what he has.....I suspect. No way to really know for sure, but I’ll let him know the truth about his dollars. Too bad, really.
He has other coins which I haven’t seen yet, so I’ll reserve judgement until then on the rest of them. Who knows.
I do, however, have one more picture of some Italian coins from him, I believe circa 1800 from my research. They look awfully nice for the age, but who knows. I wouldn’t know where to begin to sort out whether they are fakes. I’ve also attached a pic of a dollar bill......also fake? 😱

Both the 1917 and the 1899 $1 notes are real albeit pretty low end in both grade and values.

stay away, delete his number from your phone, and lock your doors at night. that is no friend.

I'd also recommend, since its obvious that you struggle detecting even the most obvious counterfeits, that you limit your buying exposure to mainstream outlets, like greatcollections and heritage auctions.

That 1917 silver cert looks really washed out. The seal and serial numbers are badly faded. And something is going on with the top edge..

The 1899 seems OK as a reference example of that note.

But with all those fake coins that he is trying to pass off, I would generally steer clear.

This reminds me of Bob Uker's line in the film "Major League."

Those are some really bad Chinese fakes. I was not aware that they had dropped in onther dates on their "Bust too far to the right" Dollars. The only ones I had seen were dated 1796. The real thing is dated 1795.

For your own good you may want to invest in a few books before you start buying coins, especially big ticket items.

In my experience, when someone produces a batch of counterfeit coins, and mentions that they have other coins, those other coins are also bad. Almost without fail.....There is no reason to hold out some sort of hope that maybe he has something good.
As you have heard in this thread so many times, stay away.....

Love the comments! Too funny! Good thing my area of expertise isn’t coins and that I only seriously collect most things Winchester related! I’m more the opportunist for value in most things, including coins, but I know my limits and I’m smart enough to ask you guys. Just like on the gun forums, sometimes it’s easy and sometimes it’s hard! I’m glad this was an easy call. Had there been disagreement on the authenticity, I’d be worried.
But wait, there’s more! For only shipping and handling......

The large coins are absolute fakes. I'm pretty sure the 2 Barber quarters are OK and the Large Cent is BU (Beat Up).

With coins, much as in weapons, we need to see both sides
