I call for having his statue in front of the ANA headquarters! His accomplishments are so many. Actually what the heck are they?
What is needed numismatically to be considered an accomplishment? I guess I see spreading the positives of numismatics, educating others, and building a wonderful, vast, and thoughtful collection as being tremendous accomplishments.
That's one thing I love about this place. There are collectors with very limited budgets that have put together wonderful collections with modest monetary value. Far from world class, but still wonderful. I personally see that as an accomplishment. I guess some others don't. There are also high end dealers and collectors dealing and owning coins out of reach for most. Personally I greatly appreciate the knowledge and areas of specialty all of you share and bring to this forum.
@BillJones is certainly a forum treasure. He brings knowledge of many types of coins as well as an understanding of surface conditions. His pictures are great and very helpful. We are very fortunate to have Bill among those whose contributions make this the finest coin forum on the internet. Cheers, RickO
Much better to compliment and send the love to someone while they have their health. It's so much less contrived than after they pass (and everyone becomes a Saint.)
I think Bill Jones ranks up there as one of the most valued forum members. He always takes time to comment thoughtfully with a great historical write up of his fascinating coins and medals.
So, maybe he hasn't built a top rated collection. So, maybe he doesnt care about CAC.
Are a man's accomplishments quantified in such terms?
Bill is one of the good guys, and a very worthy subject of this thread.

How could I have a bone to pick w/such a famous world class coin dealer?? Like I said, put a statue up of him at ANA HQ and list all of his achievements. I will camp out just to read them. Screw all those other guys like JA, Doug Winter, JD, etc. They have contributed no where near what Mr Jones has to this hobby-right?

I am generally unfamiliar with the people you mention, although Winter rings a bell. I have been exposed to Mr Jones’ writings and pictures and so I thought to celebrate him. I am also a fan of several other authors found posting on this site. This thread is not intended to detract from anyone’s accomplishments.
I do not know who you are but it is a bit shameful to be raining on this “parade”. It seems in bad taste to drip sarcasm they way you are. You have made a less than favorable first impression on me. I am 36, a middle class collector, not a rich man, so maybe that does not matter to you.
I really try to avoid calling people out as I have a tendency to misinterpret things, but it seems clear you are unhappy with the thread I have authored. If you do not have anything nice to say please do not post in this thread.
Have a nice day
@specialist John Agre of CRO posts good show reports and comments here. The others you mention don’t post here and may be unfamiliar to many here.
This is also not a competition with others but a celebration of a valued collector / dealer / forum member who has posted here for years, as mentioned by @Aspie_Rocco above.
I see @Aspie_Rocco has made a post that I agree with. And honestly, something that I think needs to be said. I'm not writing this post to simply criticize @specialist, I'm writing it with the hope that it will result in a positive change for the forum. I watched your sarcasm and your negativity on this forum for a long time, it goes anywhere @billjones goes for some weird reason.
I want to keep emphasize the positive. Your dealings in Legend with all those true treasures give you a really unique opportunity to contribute to this forum in a positive way that no one else could match, but instead you go around on this CAC jihad disparaging everything non-CAC, constantly criticizing the same person with tunnel vision, and acting like if you don't have an 8 figure collection, you are just a worthless bag of bones. Your sarcasm is incredibly rude. You really act like you have a middle school crush on this man. You follow him everywhere, you're always trying to put him down. And frankly you behave in a very unprofessional way for someone of your caliber. If you have nothing nice to say, why can you just not say it? No one even mentioned you in this thread until you barged in. I knew based on the title of this thread that I would find you here. Why are you a member here? What's your goal? As a person in your unique and certainly envious position, why don't you work to engage us plebeians and contribute positively to this forum?
@BillJones on the other hand almost always has something to positive contribute on this forum. Judging by your posts, he certainly isn't in the tier of collector that you deem worthy, that only comes when money is infinite. But his posts include incredibly detailed answers about coins and grading them. His posts are a treasure trove of learning. Obviously @specialist doesn't enjoy reading his posts, but I very much enjoy reading his posts, even if I don't interact with him in any other way than through reading his knowledge. I came here to learn about coins.

Thank you @Aspie_Rocco for creating such a positive post. Unfortunately, I am going to have to close it since it is beginning to spiral off topic. Keep celebrating each other's achievements.
