I found a nice earlier edition a few months ago. (Mid 1960s) Very enjoyable and informative book. Has anyone else read it?

I bought and read it when it was first published (1964?). It was a very popular book and has been reprinted many times.

I think that this was Bowers’ first book. I bought the first edition when I was a high school and read it at that time. I still have that book and a reprint Stacks’ sent to me a few years ago. It is a good read.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I haven't read it, but I'm sure it's good. His writing is pretty awesome!

I think I have several editions of it, but I did enjoy the first one.

Back then, I couldn't afford to buy entire hobby books --- I had to buy one or two words at a time. Took a long time to get all the Bowers' book...but it was worth it! :)

Dave is such a terrific author! He just had a book published about Vermont colonial copper which were minted in the 1780’s.

Uhmmm...He was there, or at least that's what is claimed..... :)

  • Wonderful book indeed. I was fortunate to pick it up at a second hand book store in the early 80's... it is a must read book and very entertaining... somewhat similar to his "The Numismatists" series which were published in the 90's

@thisistheshow.... I have no idea.... I purchased a signed book and had one signed at a coin show years ago. Perhaps someone else has information that can help you... Cheers, RickO
