Man, this is a tough question to answer! Over time I would expect that my answer has changed significantly. Additionally, the grade level or method of manufacture certainly would play a part in my decision. Also, favorite coin design does not equate to favorite series to collect, at least in my mind and with the evaluation I will present. I've given this a fair bit of thought and would break down my list as follows-

Entire coin (both obverse and reverse)-
    Buffalo Nickel
    Connecticut Half Dollar
    Oregon Half Dollar

My favorite reverse are the various Seated Liberty Quarter, Half and Dollars. I don't know what the name of it is, or if there is a specific name for the design.

For the Obverse it's the Indian Head Cent.

I like most U.S. coins (nix a few).
I really like copper for some reason, because it's the most reactive metal and harder to find in good condition?
    I don't know. :)

    Draped Bust ...

    The 1907 High Relief $20 Gold ...

And the 1794, Heaad of '94 large cents. It's hard to believe that coin that looked this elegant was only a cent.

I am glad no one has chosen any of the dead president coins. From cent to half dollar they have been minted since 1909, 1938, 1946, 1932 and 1964.

The dead president coins need to die and be replaced with something else that represents the best aspects of the USA.

    Liberty for example.

  • BillJonesBillJones Posts: 33,856 ✭✭✭✭✭

There is nothing outstanding about any of the “dead presidents” designs although in fairness to the Jefferson Nickel designer, the government die sinkers changed so much from Felix Schlag’s original design that he ended up being more of a consultant than a designer.

Yes-his original reverse design is far superior to the mess that was chosen.

I really like the $10.00 Indian Gold Eagle design.

Indian, in profile, on the obverse.

    Eagle on the reverse.

Simple, uncluttered and elegant on both sides of the coin. High grade examples of this coin with booming luster are stunning.
