Man that’s beautiful! Very nice pick up in every way.

Pretty example. Cams and PLs are out there, but not easy.

That is a very pretty coin, but there is one caution I will throw out to you. MANY of the gold dollars from the 1880s have at least some P-L characteristics. The reason is that the mintages were limited which met that the dies often did not lose their initial polishing. This is especially true for the very low mintage dates like 1880, 1881 and 1882.

Therefore I would not get overly aggressive when it comes to paying for P-L, especially when it is not marked on the holder, for gold dollars from this era.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

So like any good sucker I thought: “Oh yeah, if anyone’s gonna step up it’s me!”

    Nice looking coin. :+1:

That’s a lovely coin but it’s not very rare and the coin really doesn’t have much of a premium. The CAC pop is 16 in 64 with 64 finer. Like @BillJones stated above, the mintage of late date gold dollars is low but a large percentage were saved and most are very attractive with a large number with a proof like appearance.
