It’s okay, but the artwork is nowhere near as nice as Frazer’s original work. The gold buffalo artwork is better.

The Buffs in silver are cool, but I like the Gold Buffs too. Here's one of the herd. Actually bought this one from Steven Sanders (RIP) some years ago. He was the best and fairest coin dealer I have ever known.
Here are three Proof coins that display Frazer's original work.
The 1913 Type I Nickel
A 1936 Satin Finish Nickel. This is my favorite.
And for those who prefer the Brilliant Finish.

I got the two coin set from the mint when they were issued. I think the two coin set like you have is the way to go.
I recall all the hoopla when they were issued. They were an instant hit as executed and after they sold out there were suggestions by coin collectors and politicians about issuing more so as to satisfy demand and also to maximize the benefit to the Native American organization that received the surcharge. Suggestions were to make more with an identifying marking to disginguish them from the first group, or to mint them the following year. Any of these ideas would have required additional congressional legislation which never materialized.

I am glad it didn't. The "add-ons" usually dilute the value of the original, and in the end they often end up as losers.

Bill, your proofs are very nice coins. I agree that this design is one of the absolute best. The gold proofs are also stunning with their hammered fields to great effect.

Looks good but I had not thought about it

I totally agree.
It’s a classic and beautiful design. I wish the U.S mint continued the design with bullion coins.
@1940coupe Congrats on your beautiful buffalos .... I really like them; it's almost triple the joy of little buffalo nickels
VERY nice! Congrats! An iconic "American Classic" design for sure.
I like it, thanks for sharing !!!
Buff nickels are a great design, both sides, IMO. It's details that I like to study under magnification. Peace Roy

@BillJones ....Those are really nice Buffs...great detail, truly shows the artistry of this marvelous coin. Cheers, RickO
i Think If the Mint had made a Clad dollar for circulation it would have been very popular to people

I happened to get a few 70s when they 1st came out......made a killing.....my only experience at flipping
The original artistry is hard to beat. All that can be done is to pay tribute to it.
@Taurus .... Welcome aboard.... and yes, I agree with your comment. Truly unique and worthy to be called art. Cheers, RickO
@ricko ....thank you, I appreciate the warm welcome.
It seems that obverse on the 2001 Buffs was executed as a copy of the pre-1916 coins. It has the weaker looking "LIBERTY".
I don't really know, but it's just my opinion.
Pete
I have never seen the 2001 in hand but after looking at the OP's pictures that's the impression that I get as well.

I knew it would happen.
I liked the 2001 Buffalo dollar so much that I bought 95 of them from the mint the day of the release
Not fair to compare to the gold, but I liked the Unc. 2008 1/4 Oz.
Well, just Love coins, period.
I bought that one from the Mint. Really looks good in a set of Buff 5c proofs.
I like these coins a lot. They look like coins with a denomination, no PM content and a single date.
This isn't mine, but really shows the coin off, from Phil and the TrueView team.
