Appears modern issues are dead, or close to it

Outside of a jump in PM prices, it has been brutal for most of the modern issues. Some must have taking a terrible beating on a lot of these. Overall, I do like the gold commems and the Eagle coins and have been stacking 70's when available for little over melt which seems often now. Decent strategy, or is it like catching the falling knife. Comments pro and con will be appreciated!

It is usually darkest, just before the dawn.

My acquired coins are not for profit so it's more quality rather than quantity.
The soft metal market IMO affects bullion collectors more in general although I've noticing some price decrease on pre 1933 gold as well.
So for me......no strategy expect one just to satisfy my fancy
A single milk spot will render an MS/PF Silver Eagle unwanted. Dealers are paying 3% to 5% back of melt for MS69 gold commems. Your money is probably better spent elsewhere.
Is there any secondary market for this type of material? Perhaps it was just the realm of the flippers and they have flipped and moved on.
Takes awhile.
Your hoard has true value.
If Pm's drop a lot and you buy more you will be fine at some point in the future. If PM's go up from here, then you're golden.
All of the D Carr stuff that you are buying from D Carr directly is an extremely good move. You should always be able to make money on his pieces. Buy his best designs. Buy D Carr low mintage coins.
It's darkest in the middle of the night. Just before dawn comes nautical twilight... when the first glow appears.

Try parachuting in pouring rain at night into the Panamanian jungle: Black Black Black. Liking jumping into black ink. No sense of up or down.
Modern issues, with a few exceptions, haven't been good "investments" for 30 years.
generally speaking, I know there are exceptions, both the coin & PM market have been in a slump for at least 7 years. But that's the name of the game, both will turn around eventually when the speculators return. I've always considered them to be the silent "market makers."
What!? Not even the Block Quarter in PCGS70??
When you just look at them as bullion, they don't seem quite as bad.
Made out on the Truman chronicle sets. Had 10 sets. All sold unopened. Lost on the 2013 Platinum Proof that I just sold with $700 loss. Win some. Lose some.
Box of 20
I'm not so sure. I think we are seeing a fundamental change
Lol. I said "with few exceptions".
Right, lets' see how a thousand dollar Block Quarter is doing in 5 years, let alone 10.
Well, just Love coins, period.
Modern issues are often a flipper's dream....for a short while. Some catch a bit of collector interest, then slowly fade away. Some will re-emerge in forty or fifty years....no predicting what they will be. Modern gold and silver, at current prices, will attract some stackers - and series collectors. Then, if the PM market get's hot, there will be lot's of action. It will happen. Cheers, RickO
That statement was a metaphor, not actual fact. It was intended to provide some hope for those in despair.

Honestly I believe the number of takeoffs and landings should be equal. Perhaps one extra take off for a short period before it equalizes again.
People who jump out of perfectly good airplanes are basically insane. And while i have lots of crazy friends ( because face it normal people are pretty much boring... ) that's one of the lines I draw.

What ever blows your skirt up.

That's a classic! It also lead to her break-up with Joe D.
Brain dead and on life support from Uncle Sam. When the well is dry stop dropping the bucket down it.
I just bought two (different) French 10 euro silver coins in' The Women of France" series that is still being issued by the Monnaie de Paris. I have to guess that the final issuance numbers on these two designs will be on the low side. Of course, many folks don't think that any euro coin over the two euros denomination is even for real.

Hmmmmm.........I'm not unhappy with the position in precious metals that I've built over the past 30 years. Quite satisfied, actually......
I knew it would happen.
Just my opinion but I feel the the current US Govt. (ie the mint) is a poor choice of someone to try and make money with. Lots of solid investment opportunities without giving the govt. anything but the taxes you owe. As I said JMHO
The great thing about USA is you’re free to do as you wish with your money.
I remember the days of Eric Jordans epic thread in 2007. Those were fun times. Man a lot of issues sure have tanked. Still a few good ones of course but interest definitely seems to have waned.
Just ask the classic commemorative collectors that bought their coins in 1989-1990 right before the crash...
I agree. We never rebounded to pre 1990 levels.
Needs to have Roman Booteen on the board. Seriously!

He used 2 Morgans 1921 + $5 2015 gold to create this masterpiece
