Seems like show report threads are rarer around here compared to several years ago. Below is my effort to rectify that...and pass along my perception of the show and market.

**Tuesday: I flew in from St. Louis via Chicago and was lucky enough to dodge thunderstorms without too much delay. Given a less than ideal car rental pickup,I bypassed the recently closed bourse and went straight to a local Irish bar/restaurant to meet a ton of other Roundtable Certified Dealers for catered spread. I’m amazed at the number of young dealers out there. For once, I wasn’t the youngest dude (or dudette) there. I guess I’m getting old but there were several young folks around with the dinosaurs that we all know (and love).

**Wednesday: I arrived early for some lot viewing. Overall impression of the auction was lots of retread and low end coins interspersed with snippets of exceptional stuff. Results show that fresh coins with CAC stickers are strong. Fresh coins with CAC stickers that are top pop can bring the moon. Will see what the market does in the long run.

I sold quite a few coins walking the floor (I didn’t get a table). The action was strong in a normal market. Thought it was exceptional given the devastation in the metals market. There are certainly series out of favor. I would very highly avoid average key date coins with high pops. I don’t see a bottom in some of those types of coins any time soon.

I was very happy to buy several exceptional coins reasonably. I could have flipped several of them quickly for a profit to other dealers, the demand for fresh stiuff was that high. Stay tuned for the NEWP email (and sign up if you aren’t on the list) :).

Saw and talked to lots of forum members. Was great seeing so many folks. Wish I could have talked more at length. Hung out and talked with @Lakesammman @boiler78 @Shortgapbob, @airplanenut, @DCW. Had a lovely dinner with @Boosibri and @XF45. Make sure you BYOB for Philly restaurants. I disapproved of the Natty Light choices of Brian and Chris, but to each his own I guess.

**Thursday More buying as I had sold most of what I had. The ANA is so huge I wish I had more time. Could have done more damage but ran out of time and had to get back to San Fran for a family engagement. All in all a great trip and coin experience. Philly convention center is one of the better ANA locations I’ve been to.

Apologies if forgot any forum member encounter. Apparently just missed @Varlis. :(

Please holler if you would like Silicon Valley Coins to be your numismatic hunting wingman!

John
