WTB - Counterfeit Portrait 2 reales

I have about 25-30 varieties so far, but I've got an itch to add some more (if possible).

Please PM me with what Kleeberg variety #(s) you have and approximate grade/condition, and a photo would be great too.

Thanks!

    No hits yet...

  • I also love and collect these pieces, best of luck in your hunt :)

Highly enthusiastic about world coins, contemporary circulating counterfeits and unusual stuff <3

I have this one...write up from Dave Wnuck.

1776 Contemporary Counterfeit 2 Reales. Very Fine [uncertified].
Kleeberg 76A-M17. Struck in copper. This is the first of the counterfeit 2 reales I spoke of in my commentary above. It is the only variety known with the "magic" (to US coin collectors) 1776 date. A beautiful (by counterfeit 2 reales standards) milk chocolate brown color, and the finest example of this rarity-7 die variety known to me. It is the plate coin in John Lorenzo's update to John Kleeberg's attribution guide to this series. $685.

Thanks Boosibri. At this time I'm not looking to spend more than ~$200/piece on these, and I might pay a bit more if the die variety is more crude. There are now also two reported 1776-dated counterfeit 2 reales varieties.

    Appreciate the offers so far!
