Nice find at that price! Does not matter that the "grade" is about 3 points too high.

I actually thought that at first, but looking closer, the majority of bad spots that look like hits is just spotty toning. The obv is a good 63 but I think the rev gave it the extra bump to 64.

I haven't seen anything comparable in the past 30 years.

Maybe the pawn shops around here are worth a visit once in awhile. You've just convinced me. Nice catch!!!!

bsshog40, I'm wondering how the Morgan is in a Fatty slab if the coin was recently found raw. The "Pronged" NGC
slabs came out in 2008 and there were around 18 different varieties of the older holders. One needs to see the reverse to pinpoint the year they came out, first ones came out in 1987.

Not sure where you're getting Recently Raw from. This Morgan was already in the NGC slab and in the little plastic baggie when I bought it at the pawn shop. Don't know its history before that.

They must have given it the @ricko 'dirty silver' discount when they set the price at $14.99 ;)

First of all - great score! I love the coin - especially at 15 bucks. I'd buy those all day.
Second - I wouldn't trumpet your score too loudly even though it is tempting. The pawn shop might actually find (or be shown) this thread. You will then get the bsshog treatment - higher prices or no ability to look thru inventory. I hope they never figure out they let one slip by.
Third - I used to go to pawn shops from time to time and look at proof sets. All sets were priced at ask - imagine that! I cherry picked some nice cameos and also a number of varieties. I NEVER gave them a clue what I was looking for but they eventually figure out I was getting cameos (never figured out the variety angle). I gladly paid ask, maybe I should have asked for a discount. After a while, they learn not to let me look thru sets. I wanted a 1960 set, they only offered the top one from the pile...… The local shop that dealt in coins even hired a part time collector to screen their proof sets for treasures.

    I forgot to add.
If the pawn shop sold this coin for $15, it has to make you wonder what they bought it for....
    I'll wager $5. $10 max.

I didn't see the slabbed image the first time..only the empty bag and coin without slab. Thanks for the good photo.

Also, these are the image I saw at first. Had I seen the slabbed coin in the bag first, I would not have been confused!

I know. I didn't want to disclose it was already slabbed in the first pic. Lol Sorry!

I hear what you're saying but the pawn shop has not been named. Also, I don't think they really deal with anything numismatic related as I've never seen any other coins or such in there. I'm betting it's a one-off and I'll probably not see another deal. Lol But, I usually go by there once a month to look around.

Hell yeah buddy!...don’t ever feel bad about ripping a pawn shop...half of them would lock the doors behind you, tie you up and sell you for parts if they knew they could get away with it...

...if anything, it’s the people who can pick apart pawn shops that should be the actual owners of them...just because your street hardened doesn’t mean you should be dealing collectibles ;)

Junkies sell anything and everything to get loaded. Pawn pays 10% of value so an addict with a $400 a day habit needs to steal and sell ten times that to get the money to get the dope. That's a full time job in itself. Peace Roy

So, $10 to $12 when they walk into the shop to sell would appear to be a "fair" buy offer. Agree ?

That is a great deal.... Even raw Morgans are more expensive than that in the antique shops in this town.... Yes, I would have grabbed that one (even with the tarnish ;) ) at that price. Cheers, RickO

Absolutely but then once home it would have to get the crack and dip. Congrats, nice score.
