So this character wants to sell me 40$ in 90% quarters. I told him I’ll pay $400 for them knowing he’ll counter. First $500, then $450, but I stuck to my guns.
My $400 stuck so we made an appt to meet.
But, but but wait, I hadn’t seen the coins. So he sent me these pics
What’s wrong w/the above pic?
Answer: it has only 40 quarters or $10 fv.
No wonder that certain character accepted my $400 offer.
Morale of story, greed does not pay.

Apparently math is not his thing.
Maybe I read the OP wrong, but if he told you $40 in silver quarters, and that's what you bid on, you ought to be able to rescind your offer with no hurt feelings. The mistake is on him.
I'll bet that was an unpleasant meeting.
I’d never meet such character. After I pointed out that he was shy $30 in coins he said sorry he was selling $10 in quarters. That ended the convo.
I see, you counted from the photos not assuming they were just some of them.
I emailed the character for pics of all 40$ quarters. That’s when he fessed up to only having 10$ for sale.
I usually (always) ask for pics right away. But the greed factor set in & I waited till the end for them.
some people....geesh
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
Yikes, good thing you caught it !!!
I don't call it the greed factor. I consider it Little Jack Horner Syndrome, as in the children's song
Little Jack Horner
Sat in a corner
eating a Christmas pie.
He put in his thumb
And pulled out a plum
And said
"What a good boy am I!!"
Was he crooked or just really poor in his math skills?
Probably a lil of both.
Probably an old guy that miscalculated the number of coins vs the value. Doubt that there was any intent to deceive.
Your vigilance paid off.
Didn’t you try to still buy those for $100? 10X is a fair offer.
My YouTube Channel
No I was so mad I made him an offer of $90 & never heard back from him, good riddance.
I'd have to witness his behavior to know if he just had a misfire upstairs or trying to pull a fast one. I'm so used to dealing with cents, I'm quick to say a roll has 50, without thinking. I did that with my daughter (8) when we were rolling the change jar
Sure sounds like a con job.... You apparently dodged a $$bullet.... Cheers, RickO
