In the first video within the above Playlist:

Located 284.2 railroad track miles north of Seward Alaska, Hurricane Gulch Bridge was the most costly and difficult bridge built to make possible the July 15, 1923 completion of the Alaska Railroad that took place exactly one year and 11 months after the bridge’s completion in on August 15, 1921.

At a height of 296 feet it was the tallest bridge in America, a record it held until the 1930’s. Today it remains the tallest in Alaska along with its 918 feet length being the longest bridge on the Alaska Railroad.

President Harding drove the golden spike in Nenana Alaska on that August date. Within weeks he was dead from a heart attack in San Francisco after his returned crossing over the Hurricane Gulch Bridge on his intended return to Washington D.C.

In the second video within the above Playlist:

In this video witness the stunning view looking down 296 feet into the depths of Hurricane Gulch the deepest canyon crossed by the Alaska Railroad.

Your visual journey extends the full 918 feet length of Hurricane Gulch Bridge, the longest of any bridge on the Alaska Railroad,

At the gulch’s base spectacular Hurricane Creek can be seen as it flows and branches into an extended distant valley. In the distance is North America’s tallest mountain, Mount Denali, along with its sister mountains of the Alaska Range with their bases peering out from under the billowing cloud cover.

In the third, and final video within the above Playlist:

Built in 1921 the Hurricane Gulch Railroad Bridge at 296 feet high was the tallest bridge in the United States.

Today it remains both the tallest and longest bridge on the Alaska Railroad. It stretches 918 feet long.

In this video the train slows as it approaches Hurricane Gulch which was so named after the summer’s small craft advisory strong winds that blow through the steep canyon.

Once on the bridge the train comes to a complete stop where one can look down to see Hurricane Creek at the bottom of the gulch.

Completed as a scenic arch bridge it was built with the assistance of an aerial tram that crossed the gulch and allowed construction to proceed from both sides making it possible to complete the bridge in less than three months during the short Alaska summer.

And here are some still shots of Hurricane Gulch Bridge and views from it:

And some positioning shots and narrative from others:

From Seward and Anchorage at close to sea level, the Alaska Railroad rises to 2,363 feet above sea level for its highest point located at Broad Pass near Denali National Park:

Views from the rail route along the Nenana River that flows through Denali National Park and much of interior Alaska:

The Park Rangers at Denali National Park rely upon Sled Dogs to patrol the vast Park lands and transport needed supplies during the long winter.

On site sled dog kennels have historically been maintained since the early 1900’s when the Park then named McKinley National Park was first established.

During the summer months the sled dogs keep fit by participating in demonstrations for the Park visitors.

Watch here in this below video as they leave their kennels and are hooked up to a wheeled sled. On signal the team races to a spot where they are rewarded with treats and then patiently remain for viewing by the gathered Park visitors

In the video we are then treated by our human host to a narrative describing the sled dogs’ vital role at Denali National Park.

Here, in this below video, having raced together as a team to join the Denali Park Ranger host for the Denali National Park’s popular and unique Sled Dog Demonstration, the sled dogs then race one-by-one back to their historic kennels.

The Sled Dog Demonstration is offered three times each day during the summer months and also affords the opportunity to meet the dogs where they reside in the Park’s historic kennels.

Buck, the only sled dog at the historic Denali Park kennels that one is allowed to feed. Buck loves bucks:

Opening Day at the Alaska State Fair

From pyramid building to head-standing-on-head, the amazing balancing skills of the Tanzanite African Acrobats from Tanzania were a featured act for this year’s opening of the Alaska State Fair.

Shared here in their finale sequence watch feats of balance and energetic choreographed agility and contortion complemented by the sound of high speed African beats.

Alaska’s premier vocal trio with incredible harmony and range headline the Alaska State Fair’s Opening day’s musical entertainment.

Below, performing on the Fair’s Colony Stage this offered selection is a medley of 50’s musical classics that provide a showcase for their unique talent.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhxYo4UyDG4

Complementing the above videos, posted here are selected photos taken at the Alaska State Fair from Yesterday, the Opening Day:

Below pictured is a fan meeting up at the Fair with Alaska's internationally published cartoonist Chad Carpenter creator of "Tundra" which is currently syndicated in over 600 newspapers.

(When asked where he gets his ideas for his Alaska wildlife themed comic strips he replied that the ideas come to him during the documented "creative periods of the day" that include when one is just waking up, driving [elaborating, such as when you find yourself on the road and don't recall where you were for the last 20 miles], and just before falling asleep. He added that the challenge is holding onto those ideas before drifting back to a full state of consciousness.)

Then there were the Fair entries, beginning first with a winning photograph taken by an extended family member:

Each year the Fair personnel go to special lengths to find new and interesting exhibits. This year was the presentation of a collection of photographs featuring the Life of Diana and the photographers that took them:

As one departs the Fair Grounds, the floral displays bid farewell:
