Do you have a "COIN BUDDY?"

I guess wives and significant others could count if they also share your enthusiasm.
I'm thinking more of someone/s you might regularly do "coin things" with.
Forum members don't count unless they physically accompany you to coin things.

Yes, I have one older friend who I have traveled to a lot of coin shows with over the years. He has pointed out a lot of nice ancient and World Coins to me. He has put me on the trail of searching for certain hard-to-find coin books, with some success. He is now eighty-five and I don't know, this has already been a tough year for him (he lost his wife a few months ago).
I despise Spellchecker. Just despise it.
Several. The hobby has enriched several friendships far beyond anything imaginable . . . . . .

Ironically, yes. Just within the last two years I have reconnected with an old high school friend who happened to mention that he is taking an interest in coins. I have been mentoring him, helping him with purchases and we have been going to shows together. It has actually been a lot of fun.
My girlfriend, with whom I have just celebrated our one year anniversary, also likes coins and we have been doing shows and shops together, as well. We have been trying to get her kids involved but, so far, they don’t show a lot of interest. We did gift them some proof sets and other coins, though, in an attempt.
Someday, I’d like to meet some CU board members at a major show.

I had a coin buddy in the 1970s, but he went in other directions, and we lost touch.
I could be you Internet buddy.
Yes, I have my brother in law that I attend shows with. It does make it a lot more fun to have someone to enjoy the hobby with.
@BillDugan1959 Sorry to hear that your coin buddy is having a tough year. Losing a loved one at that age can be devastating.

None I know in person but I still have a good time through the internet with a handful.
I have a small handful of coin buddies. They all live out of town so I only see them at larger shows. Otherwise I basically communicate with them via text, email, or phone.
We all share the same passion for what we collect so it’s always fun to see them and talk coins as well as having a show and tell.
@Paradisefound @Billjones I will be your virtual buddy and we can plan our on Virtual coin show some day too.
I usually go to shows by myself but see people I know at shows.

I have a few guys I consider coin friends. Very few.

I don’t get to as many shows as I used to, but I could look at a couple auction lots for you if you like. I have done that before. Since my U.S. coin want list is quite short these days, I doubt that I will be your competition.
More or less solo for me. But I never assumed it would be anything but that!
Another collector in the office, but we have diverging interests, and only infrequently compare notes and purchases.
I have a few good friends that are into coins and do coin stuff together, several are members here, It makes the hobby much better indeed!

A coin nemesis would be much more fun.

I used to attend shows with Russ... and we talked a lot outside of shows... and I often ran into Bochiman at shows...but now, it is just me...and the forum...
And of course, @Paradisefound ...but that is a story for another time...

Actually, I forged a friendship with a younger member here and we talk coins fairly often. I occasionally bump into some of the same people in St. Louis, but haven't pursued more than a passing relationship with some of them. I do like to chat with a few of the dealers at the show when they aren't too busy.
I knew it would happen.
I run into forum members at shows from time to time for the last 12 years and it's always great fun to show and tell and catch up on family and life stuff.
I'm also lucky in that I have a brother, daughters, and grand kids who are interested in coins. Some have great eyes and small collections.
I love meeting forum members at shows and got to meet several at F.U.N. last January.

Same here.
I sometimes ask Skippy how many coins do I need and he answers 'Just one more'.

I have a few internet "coin" friends. Some I have met in real life, others we just chat and help each other out and brag about our rips on eBay. There's a core group of us on discord that are meeting up at the Philly ANA (around 20-30 years old on average). Here is a link to the discord thread that has the invitation link:

If anyone wants/needs a coin friend, this would be a good place and time to post here as there are other who seem to not have a "coin friend" either. Feel free to message me too if you want as I can never have enough coin friends...
@Paradisefound said: "NO."
I changed the size of your reply as you probably have more "coin-friends" here than most of us have in real life!
Me, me!
I have many coin buddies and it is my fav part of the hobby at this point.

I have one coin buddy, a great guy who started out as a customer many years ago and we ended up becoming fast friends. We had led very different lives but share a passion for coins among some other things. It has been a great gift to me.
I have lots of other coin "acquaintances" and they range from some very nice guys and gals to some of them are just out to squeeze everything they can out of you.
Kind regards,
George
I lost all my cool friends when they found out I collected coins so I’m in arrears

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

Sad story. I ..did...have one. I thought.
I've never decided if what he taught me was worth forgiving what he did to me.
Friendship/coin=tragedy.
At least in one case.
No hug, no love? I thought you guys were my buddies....
Oh come on~ We're not cool enough for ya?
Not one
I have buddies here and through the BHNC, along with some chummy dealers. I consider many good friends. We mostly see each other at shows.
Lance.
I do not. And my wife and kids have ZERO interest.
I have outlived both of my coin buddies. We went to hundreds of coin shows in the late 60's, 70's, 80's and then the shows trickled off and we only attended 1 or 2 a year after that. We had totally different tastes but enjoyed each other's collections regardlessly. When the internet occurred and later many online coin websites were formed, we again searched for each others missing coins. Great times even without being together. I have probably, now, a great friendship that has developed via this coin forum and I consider him one of the best coin friends I have had, even though we have never met in person.

Yep
My best friend and I were business partners and coin buddies.
We would set up and attend shows and auctions together, pooled our money and inventory.
Together we could do three times what either of us could do alone.
We were best friends since high school (well over 30 years).
He was the finest, kindest and funniest man I ever knew.
Sadly, he passed away 8 years ago after a long and brave battle with a very rare type of cancer.
Not a day has passed that I have not thought of him.
I doubt that one ever will.
I have one coin friend. We go to shows together and I seem him at other times to talk coins.
Many. George,Thomas,Abraham,Franklin,Benjamin.
No. I don’t know anyone personally who has an interest in coins. Unfortunate, really.

Definitely agree, though of course any age would be devastating to lose a spouse. I don't look forward to the day of losing mine, I like her a lot and selfishly, want to keep her around. She might feel the same about me.
But hopefully, Bill Dugan's friend will find comfort in the amount of time he did have with her. It isn't easy at any age. My dad lost mom when he was 83; he just turned 89, and is still truckin' along. Best of luck to your friend Bill.
Sorry to hear that mannie gray. You do honor to him with your kind remembrance. Sounds like a terrific person to know -- you were both lucky!
I have a guy who's very sharp on circulated issues. I'm good at BU coins. We complement each other nicely.
I never have had a true coin friend I could sit down with and have discussions with.
