The following list is a summary of the documented known struck fakes; dollar values in red are known purchase prices of particular examples.
The TPG’s guarantee of authenticity is one of many good reasons to keep them in the slabs!
Best, Jack.

if you copy-and-paste the text of the summary list of deceptive struck counterfeits, I'll format it here.
then it will be searchable with google and other search engines.
Also, is the process really:
taking a "coin"
then, noticing from EAC knowledge that said "coin" has some off features for the EAC "proposed" variety
then, comparing a similar known true variety for differences to determine the first "coin" is a fake.
?
(I'm afraid. I don't have EAC knowledge. This is scary.)
** Finally, is there any room in the world of ideas that some "new varieties" are truly from struck counterfeits?
also, is anyone x-ray testing these counterfeits to determine metallurgical differences?
is that 2 sales at 1800?
Yes; one actually $1850.
Yes, one of the TPG's is XRF'ing my raw examples versus known genuine ones. We do know that cull large cents were sold to the initial group responsible for many of these, so the results show old copper. We are trying to hone in on the trace metals now- of my two 1805 "C-4" half cents, one XRF'ed similar to known genuine ones, the other looks like "new" copper with a significantly lower level of the major trace elements of the others...
Is there any idea on who, what, and when on this 1798 s-158?
Pictures of it anywhere?
OMG !!!

Wow... that is a really frightening list....and not just copper....Cheers, RickO
I must admit I am confused by all of your posts...
you posted a picture of the list. the text in the picture is not searchable.
I made individual tables for each denomination.
The data in the tables will show up in a search engine result.
you should see mine & his counterfeit cert numbers thread(s)
phew buddy, that was some work.

Have you tried to search with your tables?
Google doesn't have it indexed yet
Reviewed the list and several research articles with Secret Service in a meeting coordinated by the Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force June 18.
My feeling on this topic is that in an effort to protect collectors, the ACTF has kicked a sleeping bear and some zealous government bureaucrats in the Treasury Dept. are going to screw all of us!
Remember: "The Law is the law."
I believe they have higher priority issues than hassling us...
We are trying to get them to acknowledge the counterfeit coin issue and not just look at paper.
Bump
This is NOT popular forum information @MsMorrisine but appreciate the "bump"...
I wonder how the secret service would treat the Micro - O Morgan Dollar contemporary counterfeits that circulated and are sought out by VAM collectors? From what was shared above, it does not look too promising for collectors of the Micro-Os.
.
the article above is more fluff than anything, imo. there is A LOT that the various governing laws surrounding counterfeits/replicas/etc that allow for possession, display, ownership and sales etc thereof are not even whispered about in the above snippet.
i still have yet to full go through the updated version of these governing laws but i have read enough to know there are provisions, as should be, to accommodate the myriad situations in which one may find themselves in regarding non-authentic coinage along with other items of non-numismatic nature. ie, political items which are HEAVILY covered in said laws.

Everyone seems to have their own agenda and spin on the issue.
The Sr. Secret Service Agent was clear on one thing though- if SS sees a proven counterfeit in someone's hands (as example at a coin show, shop, etc.) they WILL confiscate it. But, they don't have the expertise themselves to make that call and rely on the opinions of "experts".
.
i do appreciate info like that being forwarded if there are those in that position that will take the hard line and i'm glad you shared it.

Updated list to show the quantity documented certified:
thanks for the update. the list is bigger than expected.
has there been much conversation regarding estimation of time period for some/all of the ones found. that is to say, are there any that appear they may be period fakes aka contemporary or are the estimated to be more modern, say 1964 forward. offhand, i'm not sure how i'd go about it but if enough minds come together, i'm sure some headway could be made.
it becomes important, especially if they are determined to be 2000 forward because it means we really have to keep our eyes out for such shenanigans but if determined to be MUCH older then it is mainly just reducing the amount of them out there and keep refining.
also, offhand, do you recall if you've posted images for all of these? if so, i/we can go through your threads and compile them into one folder to share amongst ourselves and on other mediums, obviously for the benefit of education and fund loss prevention.
do you have any plans to assign a designation to each listing on that sheet with a specific set of image(s) once(if) more come to light. as the list grows, it maybe become necessary. although, i hope not. i don't know if those that made these thought it best to only do a few to keep off the radar but that seems unlikely as we see with counterfeiters, the general rule is flood baby flood.

Two years ago I picked up a 1926 Oregon Trail for about 28$ and it was shipped from Poland if memory serves right.
It looked okay in the diminutive pictures posted on eBay but upon recieving it, in hand it looked slightly off and weighed 12.6 grams (correct weight of the original is 12.5 grams).
Didn't bother sending it back and kept it as eduational aide for my kiddo.
