The old man passed away today

crazyhounddogcrazyhounddog Posts: 14,040 ✭✭✭✭✭

The old man from pawn stars passed away. I just got the news and I must say I am saddened over his passing.

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Pawn Stars 'Old Man' was a fine gentleman and he reminded me very much of several old-timey coin dealers

The Old Man hoarded pre-1982 cents until the rest of the staff sent his stuff to the bank (without telling him first).

He came to a PCGS Invite about 2-3 years ago. he was grumpy but happily posed for pics

Whenever the seller try to counter his offer for more then he would lower his original offer. He cracks me up every time.

    RIP

Saw him and some crew at a PCGS Members Only here in Vegas. They were dropping off coins for grading.

Was going to say hello but they were really busy with the PCGS crew and left quickly so did not get the chance.

Very sorry to hear this also as I used to go there quite a bit looking for coins and bullion before they made it big.
I like what many of you said above me and agree. He was an interesting person and like wise for his family.
I have always liked the show and even though somewhat scripted, without that it would be very boring as these are every day people like you and me, not actors. rip

In later episodes he didn't really look good. Kinda figured it was going to happen.

Of course, not that I wanted it to.

...can I cherry pick the wheat hoard?

    :D

He will be missed. His wit and humor and style is something you just don't get anymore. It is sad to see this type of man pass. I am glad though he has left his legacy behind to good people. My heart goes out to them.

Always like him and his son (Rick) but could do without Cory. Also lost a lot on interest in the show when I found out some years ago that it was all staged/scripted.

  • AzurescensAzurescens Posts: 2,772 ✭✭✭✭✭

I knew it was WWE storyline BS from the get go. But you'd never have a show otherwise. Or, you'd have a bad one. I agree with not having Cory. Could have done without him and his druggie friend. I don't blame Rick for not wanting to make him partner. A few arrests of the people surrounding him and so much more makes sense.

I have only seen two or three episodes (one was Charmy's)...I do not watch much TV... But the 'old man' was humorous what little I saw...Cheers, RickO

the old man was great, RIP, the show "jumped the shark" for me when they
tried to make it the " chumlee comedy hour"

The vast majority of material that people pawn is jewelry, and I am not talking Marie Antoinette's ring or Charles Lindbergh's watch. Who wants to see jilted brides pawning engagement rings or young hip hop wannabes hawking gold chains. There was another show called "Hardcore Pawn" about a shop in Detroit and it was a bit more realistic (but still staged), but mostly all reality show style drama and upheaval. "Pawn Stars" is more educational and fun.
