I am related to Thompson(Levi), on my father’s side if the family. Always have an Ebay search set for Bethel, Indiana, but never knew this token existed. Would love to find one in a lower grade!!!!

It's only money!
If you're certain of the blood relationship, go for it!
As a bit of family memorabilia, I would chase it rather higher. It's in a PCGS holder, that's a plus.
Charles P. Everitt, the book seller and Americana dealer, wrote about having a Judge as a good customer, the scion of some prominent family in Virginia or the Carolinas. The Judge confided to him that there was a history book on his family, supposedly limited to 100 printed copies, and that he dearly and deeply wanted one. After about 20 years (about 1940), Everitt came a cross a copy for which he paid $50 and offered to the Judge at $100. The Judge fumed and balked and slammed down the telephone. Within two days, the Judge apologetically phoned back and stated that he had been too peremptory. But Everitt had already sold the book elsewhere at a $150 markup. Mr. Everitt was still looking for another copy of that book, but wasn't optimistic about his chances.
IMO, buy that token and sell something from your collection to get it. It is in very nice condition and should appreciate while in the family more than a low-grade example.
I went to school with Richard Hillenbrand. I knew his family was important but never knew they had a CWT! Dick (President of the Yard and extremely popular) and a friend were killed shortly after high school graduation. I've been looking on and off for the Batesville, Ind token.
I agree, I would sell something else and pick this up if it has a family connection.

The Mercury portrait is unusual - and fairly well done for these things.
That type of connection to the token seems like a strong reason to go after it. Good luck!

You better grab it before someone here does.
Do it. Now! The regret will not be pretty. See if there are other things you can sell to avoid the financial impact.
Yes, you better delete this thread as it is drawing eyes to the auction!

You know that the seller has a web site and he might have on raw. I notice that on certain days the bidding is not as strong as say tonight when every body is home. I have bought lots of raw coins from Steve Hayden and he is highly respected. I bet you can find one that he has a sleeper waiting to finish its bidding on say a Wednesday around 6 PM when it does not get the high bidding fights. He sells hundreds of coins and seems to have a never ending supply one which astounds me to this day.
Thanks for telling me about this really neat token. I'm going to put in a huge nuclear bid because I really want it and I just can't live without it..
(Just kidding but this can happen when you post about an auction before it's over.

If it has a family tie, you should go for it.... I have been involved in DNA genealogy lately... finding out I have relatives I never knew about....In places I would never have imagined...Cheers, RickO
