Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I think the grey sheet should be concentrating on the frequently traded items - Modern proof sets, mint sets, modern commems, etc. If they want to expand, they should expand into MS70 and PR70 graded coins in these series. Maybe with QA sticker qualifiers as well.
The coin "market" is not a financial market like the WSJ; prices change infrequently, so a weekly makes little sense. Also the Coin World style newspaper that they have become is not efficient. I'm keeping my old issues for reference, but anyone can go on PCGS Coinfacts free and get a lot more data.
Noob question...I love the PCGS Coinfacts app on my phone. Is the price data there pretty close to what you would see on the Grey sheet?
No. PCGS Coinfacts is usually higher, often much higher.
Greysheet is now monthly.
the set price is on page 11
for those that need to know
Implicitly, isn't it on the sheet? The Silver Eagle is there and the gold set is there. I would assume that the set is more or less the sum of those two numbers ($3000 + $5600=$8600).
RE: "New Gray Sheet Has Less Coverage"
You have to unfold it and spread the pages to get maximum coverage. Worked fine on the garage floor when I changed the car's oil.
People still use the CDN? Wow.
We've added thousands of new prices in nearly every series (like VF30, AU55, AU58, MS62, MS66, MS67, etc). The whole point of going to the single document was to add more pricing.

I am sorry for one thing. I picked up the May issue instead of the June one when I went to the show. I looked reapeatedly for the information I needed and could not find it. Now that it is in the June and future issues, the problem is solved.
john,
bill Jones dealer extraordinare is never wrong and never spreads misinformation (NOT)!!! Notice he won't change the topic of the thread he started? He must have it out for you like he clearly does for CAC......
folks, JF does work hard to make the CDN better. its a tough job. If you have a gripe, speak to him directly-don't try and be a big shot and post here-especially when as usual your facts are wrong.
so the june issue is ok , but May is all f###ed up basically?
Not clear about the necessity of removing the OP post.
As noted above, the May issue was defective and information was missing. This was corrected for June. Both Mr. Jones and Mr. Feigenbaum identified the errors and corrected them. It's unfortunate that the May issue did not have some sort of disclaimer or notice on it, but I presume the publisher was not aware of the omissions until it had been distributed.
Mr Jones did the right thing!!!!
Nice try but not true. On a scale of accomplishment vs. errors the May 2018 Monthly Greysheet was a Herculean task and we published an incredible document. Yes, it shocked many readers who had grown familiar with nearly 60 years of gradual (if any) changes on the Greysheet, but the band aid needed to be ripped off. I think the May 2018 issue will be a collector's item for it's historical context.
I greatly appreciate @specialist coming in with support. The credibility of doing so means a LOT to me as many folks who know us both realize that we don't always see eye to eye but we still can have one another's back.
Taking over CDN is not an easy task and many days it would be easy to second-guess the decision to do so. I have a great life. I retired buying and selling coins at the top of my game and I embraced the challenge to head CDN to help the business because I feel that reliable, unbiased wholesale pricing is critical to this hobby and it's unclear to me who else would do it.
I won't always get 100% of our decisions right. And we are quick to admit mistakes, which we will make from time to time, because we are pushing the envelope here.
With that said, I take it VERY personally when people take potshots at us, stretch the facts, or simply succumb to bad online behavior. If you want to have a conversation with me, pick up the phone. I take or return every call so you don't need to hide on the internet.

By the way, if anyone is interested in something of a more positive note, we just updated our pricing screens with a number of small improvements to the user interface which looks great on a desktop or mobile device. (www.coinprices.com)
A few notable changes in last weekend's update:
1. You can now add items to a list of favorites;
2. You can now see the last 20 items with price changes on the price landing page;
3. Free for everyone; Greysheet and Greensheet subscribers get access to wholesale data
While you're at it, check out my interview with Jim Halperin last week. It's very insightful.

p.s. finally, and always, thank you to our hosts. CDN does price coins in the same "space" as PCGS pricing and we respect their efforts and stress to everyone that pricing research should come from multiple sources, including auction prices realized. Do your homework before you buy the coin...

people in general don't like change and I have noticed that collectors seem like they are on steroids when it comes to change. I didn't like the new format but I think it took me two "look-ups" to get over it.
Uncalled for, Specialist.
I am aware of the Grey Sheet but do not have the occasion to use it. I am starting to think that is just as well. Based on this thread it seems to bring out the worst in some people.
If someone who does use it has a legitimate complaint or concern it does not seem unreasonable for them to voice an opinion on the forum, as others may have the same issue/concern/complaint/misunderstanding. It seems like a good way to get the issues clarified for all interested parties at the same time.
I haven’t found the GS to be relevant for my collecting interests but respect what they are trying to do in modernizing it and that it may work better for others in their numismatic pursuits.

I have no dog in this fight because I have zero interest in subscribing to the Grey Sheet since I am not a dealer and buy only a coin about once a month or so, but I thought @JohnF 's comment "we are quick to admit mistakes" sort of flies in the face of his other comment "Nice try but not true ... we published an incredible document." If @JohnF is "quick to admit mistakes" he might want to "admit" the mistake in the May issue that lead @BillJones astray.
That said, I have NO doubt that it was indeed a Herculean task to take over the Grey Sheet and I wish @JohnF all the luck in the world in his endeavor.
Any ever hear of learning pains? JF may have his ideas but putting them into action can be a massive undertaking. So the guy messes up one month. he admits it then corrects, NO HARM DONE, NO CHANGE IN THE MARKET. The way this thread was presented then carried on by Jones was malicious. hey Jones could have easily emailed JF instead of acting like a big cheese on a chatroom.
coinstartled: hey Mr Jones did the right thing and pulled the title thread. I said good job. But maybe he finally came to close to reality on getting what he deserves for his MISINFORMATION-and it was not coming from me.
What I saw was honest criticism for the May issue. It appears there was a problem with the May issue that has been resolvedfor future issues. I saw no harm with BJ's original post and saw no animus/maliciousness towards the CDN. I do, however, see animus from you, and you obviously have a chip on your shoulder.
As for the CDN, no one is criticizing JF, and I cannot imagine how difficult his job must be in the current market. There are several generations of holders, each seemingly with different grading standards which much make his job close to total hades. With the market becoming even more fractured/choppy, to come up with anything close to accurate is nothing short of a minor miracle.
Does QA have that big of a following now? I haven't really followed moderns so I am clueless.
Because I'm feeling magnanimous you have my permission to use my earlier quote as the disclaimer you put in the July issue.
Honestly I don't really care either way , I'm just jealous of how many disagrees glicker has been piling up lately and I'm trying to catch up by being a squeaky wheel.
Hell with the disagrees, I added two flags for merely posting an image of the U.S. president on the Off Topic Fathers Day thread.
Error coin business must be in the tank!!
