My box to PCGS was Stolen...3 Boxes showed up Received without contents,Update 2nd Claim denied

1tommy1tommy Posts: 3,024 ✭✭✭✭✭
UPDATE: Three packages have turned up at pcgs torn opened and empty of contents. My package was so well taped around it that it was never found and I consider now to be stolen. Claim will be filed on wensday................................................................................................................... Sent in two coins that are priceless to me, priority mail insured tracking number. I have Never had a problem and it always has gotten there in 2 days, My tracking shows it left anaheim at 430 am on friday, its less than 20 miles to newport beach. This is where the trail ends as newport never scanned the package. I now know that sick feeling and unrest. These two coins I have searched 1 for over a year and the other 6 months, both might have been top pops. I'm sick...........................There is nothing pcgs can do and the newport clerk said he would try to call me before he leaves work tonight. Lesson learned as I should have overnighted heavyly insured with signature required..............image I Believe this thread should be lock at the top pcgs should warn there customers there is a problem. Packages missing and others showed up EMPTY? How many others before a warning is issued?

I realize it is disheartening, but the trail is only cold as of Friday so there is still a good possibility it shows up shortly.

I wouldn't be worried - yet. I mailed a package with delivery confirmation to Baltimore and I live 32 miles away. It took 4 days to get there!!!! But...it finally got there.

Did you opt for signature confirmation?
I'm sure they will get your package to Newport Beach by tomorrow.

The Last TIME, I sent something to PCGS with Priority Mail, I received reminders that only Registered Mail or Over Night Insured Express was acceptable for PCGS Submissions.

Good Luck! The package is probably just sitting somewhere until they can find their reminder notices.

As for your "heavily insured" comment..............you'll just be wasting money since the Post Office only pays off on actual value........not perceived value.

    Again.......Good Luck!

I believe your worry is premature, even with priority mail. Anything priceless should go registered.

I have sent quit a few lower value modern submissions Priority with Signature service and never had any flack from PCGS.
They are not on the hook until it gets to them and heck they are using Priority service rather than registered anymore to send my stuff back.

I would not worry yet. Mail has been slower than usual lately, and I'm sure it will turn up.

Can you tell me how long ago that was? I have always sent my coins in via insured priority mail and have a sub just about ready to go and wondering if i should upgrade to Express Mail.

I understand that. I'm simply related what I was told and what's printed on EVERY Submission form in the "Instructions" area.

However, you're certainly free to send your submissions anyway you'd prefer.

Thanks everyone for the good thoughts. No I did not send it signature required(my mistake) I have sent in over 15 orders in the past 2 years always sent priority insured signature and have never received a notice they do not accept. What worries me it was on its way to newport from anaheim at 430 am friday its had a whole weekend to get there and today. I understand the insurance and only insured for a 1000 even tho I had them insured for 4 grand coming back (based on the perceived value) Another sleepless night and will call newport in the morning and really hope your all right and this is just another silly I panicked thread.........Enjoy image

I have the same issue with a package from the mint. It was at the main Post Office Friday Morning and it hasn't made it to the satelite Post Office where I have my P.O Box. We are only talking about a few miles ( a long walk). I went to pick the package up this morning and the clerk said not to believe the scans a a large majority of them are fake.

Something to think of in the future if you don't already know this........ Express mail insurance I think at a certain price point is much cheaper than Priority insurance.

I've got 2 boxes that were sent to me on Friday. One shows out for delivery today, the other - sent at the same time by the same person - still shows as being at the outbound sort facility.

Give it at least a couple of days before freaking out.

Updated: Both of my packages were delivered today.

I sympathize with you, and have been there myself. BUT it is waaaaaay too early to get terribly upset as in the grand scheme of things, it hasn't been that long at all. I have a good feeling it will work out for you and show up. image

Only three suggestions, none of which will be of any actual help this time around:

    1) Registered
    2) Registered
    3) Registered

That said, the odds are something like 99:1 that it will show up.

Priceless coins, and PCGS is less than 20 miles away?

Maybe in-person delivery is worth considering as well.

(Good luck. Hopefully your package will turn up soon!)

  • I have had a submission never scanned as delivered by USPS, but it showed up in PCGS submission tracking a few days later. I would not worry too much yet.

    Really?

What's printed on the submission form is a recommendation and it's been like that forever. Even Pcgs doesn't use Registered Mail for most returned submissions. I, myself have used regular mail w/o insurance or sig. conf. on inexpensive stuff ( valued at $200 or less) w/o PCGS ever getting involved. Your case is unique and I find it hard to believe. PCGS is not liable or responsible for any coin until it's in their possession, so why should they even get involved in how it's mailed to them? Of course, if a parcel arrives damages, they may recommend that the sender take a training course on how to properly mail coins through the mail.

I had an eBay package coming to me that was 150 miles away last Thursday (per tracking) and was routed 500 miles the opposite direction on Friday! I got it today! USPS is swamped this time of year and more mistakes happen.

Hang tough. It should be fine.

Probably a waste of time to point this out, but unless you're using Express Mail, tracking is not part of the service you paid for. Your packages might get scanned and they might not. And if they don't, the post office hasn't done anything wrong.
