thenavarro's official PSA/DNA autographed card GROUP BULK SUBMISSION Add your scans as you get them
As some of you know from my PM's that I've sent you already, I'm doing a PSA/DNA autographed card bulk submission in early October. I was going to limit it to a few of my friends, but I see from another thread on here, that there are several people that would like to participate in a PSA/DNA bulk submission, so I figured I would open it up.
Here are the rules:
1) The cards that pass, will be slabbed with the red flip, and a grade for the card. The autograph itself will not be graded, only authenticated, but the card will be graded. Here are a couple examples of what the flips will look like: (Please take note that your card may get a qualifier like my Mantle did, IE, MC, OC, ST, etc.)

2) All cards must be licensed trading cards
3) There are NO tallboys or oversize cards allowed. Period.
4) There are no cards allowed that are valued at or over $500.00. Please don't play games with this and submit cards valued higher. PSA is being good to us, and giving us a dang good deal, don't take advantage of them that way.
5) Unless I have already sent you an invitation via PM, in order to participate, you must send in 20 cards minimum. I don't want to have to take the time to deal with small orders (IE, 1 card, 3 cards, etc.), and I won't. If I've already sent you a PM invitation, this doesn't apply to you as you have been a friend and have helped me before, so you can send in small orders if you want.
6) The price is $10.00 per card, plus shipping all directions. At this stage, I DO NOT KNOW how much shipping will be, but I'm not interested in making money off of you by charging high shipping, I only desire to cover the actual shipping/packing/insurance/etc. costs.
7) I will accept payments via check or money order. If your check or money order bounces, then I will not send your submission and you will pay for me to ship them back to you. You must pay in full when you send me the cards for submission. I don't have enough money to loan you money.
8) The submission will be going to PSA, no EARLIER than the first week of October. I have to raise my own submission fees of about $1500.00 for my own cards, and I won't have that done at least until then. Additionally, I have some cards out to signings that won't be back until then anyway that I want to send. The submission will be going to PSA, no later than November 10th.
9) When you send me your cards, you must package them in individual card savers, with stickers on the back just like PSA requires. Please include an inventory list with all pertinent information. Check their submission center if you are unsure how to do that. (I will include explicit instructions in this thread when I'm ready to begin receiving your cards.) You must ship them in a method that requires my signature. Make sure you purchase adequate insurance.
10) When I am ready to receive your cards, I will post that in this thread and then you can ship them to me. This will probably be no earlier than mid-September, don't send them until I tell you to, and you don't need my address now, only when I'm ready.
11) If you are planning on participating, please post in this thread with your approximate quantity, and I will keep a running list in this post.
12) Please don't ask me if we can get a better deal with PSA, if you'd like to do that, do it yourself. Again, I think they are being more than fair and generous with their pricing. It works for me, if it doesn't work for you, then don't participate.
13) I am not responsible for PSA's turnaround time. If it takes them a week, that's awesome, if it takes them 3 months, that's not my responsibility. I'll be waiting anxiously just like you.
14) If you still have questions, please ask them in the thread, not via PM's, it's much easier for me to keep track of it that way.
Sorry for all the rules, I just don't want there to be any misconceptions, and in order for everything to go smoothly, I feel it's best to set them from day one.
Take care,
Mike

Thanks again for putting this together. As we get a little closer I will let you know how many I will be submitting.
Are those wings working overtime? LOL

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
I have at least 30. Maybe more by mid Sept. Please PM when you are ready.

Thanks for doing this. I know you really want the $10 rate, and this is a lot to go through for that.

<< <i>Just curious....ever heard of the saying "no good deed goes unpunished"? So why are you willing to take all this responsibility (thousands of $$$ potentially of stranger's cards) with absolutely no benefit other than being a "nice guy"? >>
Because I've thoroughly enjoyed my two years here and a lot of board members have helped me before. As long as everything is insured then I don't see a problem. In my day job I manage an 80 million dollar portfolio and a budget which varies in size from 50 to 100 million so cardboard really doesn't worry me too much.

Thats awful nice of you....take all that risk and get nothing but a pat on the back so to speak.
So as a manager of 80 million dollars, and an operating budget nearing $100,000,000 , your salary is so insufficient in that it will take you 2 months to get together a measly $1500 for your personal submissions? Sounds like you should be asking for a raise to me!!! 80 million dollars is a lot of responsibility!
Mike is one of the rare people you will encounter in the hobby
<< <i>gecko109 - Mike is an awesome guy who likes to help people out. He put together the whole SCN card set which involved putting photos together, getting them approved, submitting the order, packaging them up, mailing them up to all of us, and he did it without getting an extra penny in his pocket.
Mike is one of the rare people you will encounter in the hobby >>
There is a HUGE difference in coordinating a hobby such as producing your own set of trading cards and then distributing them at no profit (I have recently done this with a 40 card firefighter's set for the guys I have worked with for years), and a venture such as what he is doing now. Im just really curious why someone would WANT the responsibility of handling perhaps $10,000 worth of cards that belong to people he doesnt even know, and wont make a single dime from. Only bad can come of it. If he was making a small profit, at least you could make an argument for handling risk like that. But to do that for free for PEOPLE YOU DONT KNOW.....thats just silly.
Mike- thanks for the invitation to participate in this, I'll get mine together! Probably just send in the top 10 , I think. $10 is a good deal!

The dude is ok. Like 45 people on this board will vouch for him. What's the sense in questioning that? If you read this board often enough, you'd know the guy is on the level.

Does everything have to come down to profit in your pocket??? I don't think so! You can do something without wanting anything back, I don't think thats a crime...
Mike, I think its great what your doing
mike would do no such thing. and if he did, i have his address and I know the courthouse he works at, so I could easily fly there and do some marine sh*t on him lol
The level of your reading comprehension is astounding!!! In no way, shape, or form did I ever once accuse Navarro of not being an honest person....not once! I simply inquired about why someone would want to handle thousands of dollars of anything from strangers. Its one thing to help your buddies at no cost, its completely different to help strangers when so much money is at stake!
And no...I have never been "taken" as one of you put it. Probably because I tend to avoid high risk/zero reward propositions such as this.
<< <i> Probably because I tend to avoid high risk/zero reward propositions such as this. >>
That's because you aren't as nice as Mike. some people like to do nice things, and fyi, some of us are buddies with Mike, we aren't strangers.

I agree 100% with helping buddies in this manner. But why open his generous offer to "all comers"? I just dont understand why you would take a risk like that to help a guy you dont even know!
I have risked my life several times in the past 10 years helping people I dont know. But I was paid handsomely to do so, and it was in order to save their lives. But I would never EVER handle $10,000 worth of merchandise for a total stranger for free.....why would anyone do this?

You will be surprised how close some of these guys are to each other, so when you keep saying "strangers" you don't know what your talking about. I have a buddy I chat with online, never meet him, but I would trust him with my most expensive card.

Again, your reading comprehension needs some work!!! Doing it for someone you know here is fine....doing it for a total stranger can be dangerous! Get it now???
Question - How do you feel about the group submissions that take place?
<< <i>My reading comprehension is A ok.
Question - How do you feel about the group submissions that take place? >>
I feel that group submissions can be an affordable way to get your cards graded. Its a cool concept.
But now I have a question for you.....
How do YOU feel about handling $10,000 worth of ANYTHING for a complete stranger with absolutely nothing in return for that risk?
<< <i>I get what your saying, but Mike is a guy you can trust, period. If he wants to do it for a stranger, thats fine, but its gotta be up to that stranger to send him their cards. If they do send him their cards, that means they know him from around the boards and knows he is a trusted guy, so they can rest asure there cards are safe. And Mike knows he can trust himself
Its not Mike that concerns me. Im sure he is a decent person. However, lets assume Mike gets $10,000 worth of autographed cards from "Pete". Lets say Mike doesnt know "Pete", but allowed him to send the cards anyway. Now Mike gets robbed on the way to the post office with those cards. A friend may understand the situation. But "Pete" wont. So now what does Mike do? Do you see what I mean by taking all the risk and having zero reward, especially from a stranger? Why even bother? NOTHING GOOD CAN HAPPEN. Only something bad. Help your friends and buddies, by all means. But dont help strangers with something like this! Its just not worth it.

I totally understand... I surely wouldn't want the stress of losing somebody elses cards, but I guess thats gotta be up to Mike to take on the responsibility, and for the owner of the cards to understand the risk that is involved. Everything is a risk in life, but sometimes we gotta take it! But I definetly see what your saying, and your just asking the question, but i'm sure you understand how people can take it the wrong way.
I have been in charge of Marines in combat as a fireteam leader and vehicle cammander, so I think lives mean more than cardboard.... And $10,000 means less to me than a life. So YES I am capable and it would not be a challenge to handle $10,000+ of peoples collectibles.
I have also been in charge of $2m + in government equipment, so my leadership abilities are up there too.
Nothing is different when comparing group submissions of cards, to group submissions of autographed cards.
The same care and handling is involved in both. The same trust is involved in both.
I would think with the 2,500+ cards Craig handled, the value would be HIGHER than a submission of 150-200 cards that Mike would submit.
I know Mike from another board, and dealt with him with no problem.
I could only think he would laugh at your posts in this thread when he gets off the toilet after eating doing the hot chicken wing challlenge.

Gecko,
Yes, my salary is insufficient for the responsibility that I have. I am a government official, not a corporate employee, so I don't have the opportunities for commission's, performance bonuses, etc. If you'd like to ask our officials to grant me a raise, please go to http://www.co.ellis.tx.us and email them from there and let them know what a great guy I am, and how you think that level of responsibility deserves higher pay. However, in a year where I'm struggling to balance a budget to keep all 574 other employees employed so they can feed their family, I wouldn't take a raise even if it was offered. It's not the right thing to do this year. Could I write a check right now for $1500.00?? Sure, but that's not what I want to do as that's not in my own personal hobby budget. Yes, it will take me until at least October to set aside an additional $1500 for my submissions, because I'm not taking it out of savings or investments, and I'm not stopping spending the other hobby money I spend to do it. In case you haven't seen it, I'm building a solid collection of signed rookie cards in a thread on this board, because of that, I've got a "hobby" budget that I live with. In order to stay within my hobby budget, I'm going to sell some excess hobby items, and to do that, takes time. Additionally, I am not just getting a "pat on the back", so to speak. These are other things that I will receive:
1) When I first spoke with PSA, they said I needed a minimum of 300 cards to get the $10 rate, I only have 150 personally. Therefore, I need at least another 150 or I'd be paying $20 per card. Therefore, by doing a bulk sub, I save $10 off each submission or $1500 total. In other words, instead of paying 150 x $20 equals $3,000, I'm paying 150 x $10 equals $1500. The first couple people I emailed made up the quantity difference, but when I thought about, there's no reason not to let others share except for the inconvenience factor, and that's why I made the rule list to help me do it orderly.
2) I'll get to see some amazing cards and I'll know who has them in case I want to make them an offer on them. This has the potential to help me find some cards that otherwise i wouldn't.
3) It builds goodwill and trust, which leads to many more succesful transactions in the future.
4) I make more friends, and no one can have enough of those.
5) I'm not going to turn down anyone that sends "extra" money for my time and trouble. I'm sure there will be some that are compelled to do this, they most certainly don't have to, but there are a lot of nice people here.
6) It will give me future negotiating power with PSA when I need a favor from them. Like slabbing my children's personal cards, which they've done for me before, allowing me to use my membership vouchers for autographed submissions, when they explicitly say you can't, etc.
7) The intrinsic value of helping others and being able to set an example that my kids can live by
You see this to be a venture that involves a lot of risk. That is where we differ, If I handle it professionally and orderly, I don't see a whole lot of risk in it and that's why I used the example of my job and the dollar amounts I deal with. I deal with other people's money all day, and if I lose some of that, then I lose my career and the ability to provide and care for my kids and family. Therefore, I am very careful in the way I conduct my business. I have no problem assuming the risk for that, and I'm good at what I do. Therefore, I don't really see much of a risk in handling $10's of thousands of dollars of cardboard as long as it's insured to/from me, and to/from PSA. Yes, I will have to handle it in the interim, but I'm confident in my ability to do that as I've managed to handle my own $50,000 plus rookie card collection without a mishap and my old autographed complete run of Presidents without a mishap.
I hope that clears up some of your reasons for your posts. If you are concerned about me wanting to help others and whether or not that's genuine, then I suggest you ask anyone from my work link above, or any of the over 200 children that I've paid for out of my own pocket to go to Rangers games over the years, or any of my fellow board members of the Ellis County Children's Advocacy Center, Inc,, the Waxahachie YMCA Board of Management, or the Waxahachie Salvation Army, or any of the kids that I've donated my time to over the last several years to serve as their volunteer basketball or t-ball coach.
Lastly, if you don't want to participate, that's fine too.
Take care, (and now I'm off to bed, I've got to work tomorrow since I'm having such trouble raising my $1500

As for the earlier negative post- Consuming time/effort to help others in the hobby. Why not? Wish more did.
As for the "nothing good can happen"? Do something good, and you'll know you did good. That's enough.

Your integrity was NEVER in question with me. I am sure you are a stand-up guy, and if you wanted to go back and waste 4 minutes of your life re-reading my posts, I dont think I ever once even inferred otherwise. I simply wanted to know your motivation for taking risks when the reward wasnt apparent. Thank you for clearing it up for me, and best of luck in this fun venture!

I would like to participate if you're willing. I have at least 20, hopefully more from my '58 Pennant Project.
Also willing to help if you have the need. (web form submissions if it would make it easier)

I am reading this thread for the 1st time today and while I am extremely dissapointed that I cannot participate because I only have 10 or 12 cards that I wanted to send for authentication.......I find this line of questioning offensive. I mean come on....sometimes in this world people do things because they are nice and not expecting to get anything out of it. What a turd you are to even infer that Navarro has other reasons for doing this. Say what you want.....your comments and questions certainly show that you are being a jacka**.
I'll be on the board tonight to address some of the questions posted, I'm taking a lunch break from work right now, but I'll be on tonight.

Count me in for at least one (that I have been dying to have graded) and maybe a few more by October.
