Crust or no crust, I like the half dime. Nice and original!

Indeed. Mostly 4th and 5th century Roman Bronzes, some Byzantine pieces, and I did find some B.C. Greek bronzes in there, too. (four or five honeybee/stag coins from Ephesos, maybe a few others).
I bought the lot from Aethelred, on one of the Weekend Swaps on the Darkside Forum a few weeks back.
Ready for the good part? The lot cost me 35 bucks. There were 80 coins. That means each coin cost me just under 44 cents apiece.
There were one or two broken coins and a few slugs, but I can't complain, for the price.
I have older editions of the Sear Greek and Roman books, but unfortunately I have no reference on the Byzantine stuff.
I've been meaning to post this. Not that common that you know exactly where the crust came from. It was probably a nice BU coin before sitting in that leather pouch for 100 years.
(I expect it's a VAM also -- big die cracks through the bottom of the bust and the bun of the hair. I have a copy of the VAM book on order, so I can't attribute it yet.)
The reverse color is accurate. The obverse picture came out too light; it really is the same color as the reverse.

That Iowa is kinda of special. It was the last coin Frank the pug found for me before he left us. He knew how I liked my commems and always kept an eye out for one's I'd like. He found this one at a coin shop in B'ham.
I went to the coin store today and I didn't see anything that I really wanted, but I couldn't leave empty handed so I grabbed the crustiest circulated type coins I could find. Here they are.

Is that really a coin doctor technique? I paid $20.00 for it and thought it looked nice.

<< <i>I love the 1837 LM-1 Cladiator- very crusty! Has that one made its way to the new album yet? >>
Yup sure did. It's in there with the 1832 I pictured in my above post. The 1837 in the same post is going in the LOC as well hehe.
