Estate Sale Find Today

Was out running errands this morning and saw a sign for an estate sale. They had various coins, most 90% silver and some US Mint Philippines coins. The people holding the sale had them all priced a little over melt, but I told them the $3 was worth more. I gave them an offer and they happily accepted. They took my contact information as they come across coins frequently and will call me for first shot. The $3 is an 1855 and looks AU to me. The 1921 Morgan is about MS63/64. I paid enough that it was fair for them, and that I had enough of a cushion to protect myself. Not bad for a stop in.
All coins kept in bank vaults.

Sorry for the triple post, it didn't appear to take the first two times.

Are you going to have it authenticated?
If so, please let us know how that turns out.
Certainly wise to make an offer that protects you from the risk of the apparently many fakes out there (should at least be gold, though).

Good luck on the grade. Looks better than an AU from those pics.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
<< <i>It is a sign of true character that you treated these people fairly on the $3 gold. Well done!

I could agree with that.....once I know how far above melt the offer was. Do you buy it as if it could be a fake? It looks awfully nice and crusty just like the other coins.
Another option would have been to buy it at the offered near melt price....then try to get it slabbed. Give them 50-70% of the proceeds if it came back authentic or whatever seems fair.
Hard to believe no one else scarfed these up. You must have been one of the first ones there.

At estate sales here they seem to look at ask or BIN prices online, and price accordingly.

<< <i>I graded the coin AU55. Worst case scenario if it was cleaned, polished, tooled etc, I gave my offer and felt it would be worth $800 at least with all risk on me. >>
Agree, nothing more to do but to sell the coin now

I love a happy story!

Awesome! With the big jump for the next grade up, are you going to try it again?

Nah because I think there is a better chance for it to drop two grades

Good point! Or go to a 58. I would at least try CAC.
