I was just about to comment on the odd appearance of the marks under the chin. Normally you can decipher some of the letters of EPU, but this looks different on your coin. There are tons of varieties for buffalo nickels- some command a premium and others are just interesting. Clashed dies fall into the interesting category. -

Number 59 and 60 in the SH Bust Quarter Die Variety Set

Great photos! Die cracks are extremely common on Morgans and were a normal, predictable part of the life cycle of the dies. As such, they do not by themselves -- except in very extreme cases -- result in a VAM designation. This coin falls into the first category... it's just a pretty Morgan with some normal die cracking… -
Anyone else interested in searching private residences, but worried about leaving little yellow patc
I'd love to search some local houses around here but am worried that I'd kill the grass. So, I'm thinking of searching in the fall before the grass dies anyway... Am I paranoid, or is this a concern? -

The monedasdeguatemala.com website states that the Central American Republic coin designs and dies were made by prominent Guatemalan artists and engravers Jose Casildo Espana and Francisco Cabrera. That is, the government of the Central American Republic did not order the development of the coin… -

I do feel that there are proofs, but agree with Mark in that the dies may have been used subsequently. Roger has done a lot of research and if he found that they were not intentionally struck as proofs, then perhaps we have to fall back on Andy's thoughts that they may have been early strikes. -

Clash marks usually fall into the area of die states. It’s sort of like a doubled die coin, which is viewed as a die variety, not an error. There was a mistake when the die was made, but not when the coin was struck. As some else said, clash marks can appeal on many thousands of coins after dies are damaged. -

Haha. I like them but would have been nicer if it was just a regular strike or just keep striking them with one die till it falls apart we could of had some nice clash dies, die cracks you name it now that would of been cool with some verity.
