Sheldon Scale labels for lower grades - BS-1 vs PO-1
It's my understanding that the original Sheldon scale had, as the three lowest grades, Basal State-1, Fair-2 and Very Fair-3. The modern scale equivalents are PO-1, FR-2 and AG-3. Yes, it might be a 1797 C-1, the "1 over 1" die blunder. I think that I see a hint of the "1" above the date on your coin. This is the most common 1797 variety. Here is a sharp example of the variety. This coin is worn, but it's an early die state. All of the design features are strong. -

Neat Draped Bust 1795 $1 at Pawn Shop
Sorry for the poor pics. I found this 1795 $1 at a local pawn shop. It definitely looks genuine. It’s the off center variety. I’d grade it 50-55 but it has an obverse scratch on the bust that will make it go details. What’s it worth and is it worth toying with? Asking $5500, I bet they’d go 4500-5000.
