If your ASEs are collector coins like W mint marked burnished, proofs or reverse proofs they are worth much more as untoned, white coins with no spots in 70 grades. As an ex ASE collector I lost a bunch of money when coins I purchased in 70 graded holders later developed spots. I have never seen a slabbed 70 develop… -

I have a lot of Mint ASE's and no milk spots. Yes, it is a problem... but it seems not every coin develops milk spots. Also, a tip I had when this problem became an issue, was to rinse all new mint silver in acetone. I have no idea if this is valid, however, I have no milk spots. Cheers, RickO -

In Rick Tomaska's book - "Cameo and Brilliant Proof Coinage of the 1950 to 1970 Era", he discusses milk spots on page 26 & 27. In a nutshell he mentions that milk spots are most often found on silver proofs from 1958 to 1964 (I agree with this observation). Small spots may be removable but large spots were not removable… -
Do "Milk Spots" plague world silver bullion like SAE's?
The problem of milk spots on SAE's is well documented on various threads on the US Coin forum but are milk spots as common on world silver bullion or are they primarily a US problem? -

I have a quantity of AH Kennedy's and have no milk spots on them.... As far as I know, once developed, there really is no successful removal. Years ago, Russ recommended an acetone bath of the coin (ASE's) as soon as received (mint issues, non slabbed).... I did that when I used to buy ASE's... and still do it if I buy any… -

In the early 2000's, when there was a lot of discussion about milk spots, Russ told me that dipping ASE's in acetone soon after receipt, would prevent milk spots. I've used the Wrights or Weimans on every milk spotted coin I've ever owned. I used to buy them in bulk (at spot or less) due to the milk spots give them a quick wipe and flip them for a few bucks over. Just like those stupid painted gutter eagles. Acetone bath and good as new. EZ $$$ RGDS!
