Re: Thoughts on selling coin collection to buy PMs
Personally, I have never had the opportunity to know the difference on classics vs. modern bullion. I began collecting/stacking on September 12, 2001. The world was my chesnut. I knew nothing and loved damn near everything I saw. I did differentiate between non PM and PM. I decided I preferred PM content and as close to… -
Re: Dealer Distrust and the US Mint Product Market Boom...Cause and Effect?
Yes, the Mint and it's vast plethora of products has allowed me to gain a certain level of control I didn't have with my local dealer(s), yet I still depend on the face to face, mano y mano experience the brick and mortar offers me. As far as distrust, my local dealer has liitle interest or expertise in the surging,… -
Re: “Conservation” of coins—Good or bad for Numismatics?
Conservation good and a reality in the marketplace. Customers want coins which are brilliant, Wellstruck with nice Luster, PQ, little or no tarnish, no spots or dark areas. Heavily tarnished (toned) coins will trade at a discount. Putting a sticker on a coin heavily tarnished your blowing in the wind. Fresh coins I am… -

Re: Poll: fate of "unopened" 1954 proof set: bust up, dip/NCS, slab, or just leave it be?
I would never dip an original Proof coin. Once it's done people who are in the know can spot it from a mile away. And If you do have the coin slabbed that could knock 2 points off the grade. Proofs are not like business strikes. The surfaces are so smooth and perfect that any removal of metal will show. This is a… -
Updated Forum to English Dictionary
You guys have been using some (old) new terms lately; and I have been spending a bunch of time trying to finger out what they ment. So, I took some time today to update the Wooden Jefferson's FLD with some other (older) threads I found. Chat board lingo +1 - This thread is going to be deleted by a moderator, so I'll use it… -
u1's top 10 purchases of 2022 {2023 update in comments}
As we approach the conclusion of another year, I continue a tradition of looking back and evaluating my purchases. There were some duds (I'll spare sharing those here), a few decent collector coins, and of course the highlights-that is what this thread is about. My main focus is a box of 20 and a few of the coins on this… -
Re: Should you clean coins?
Oh yeah, if you really want to clean a coin, I would suggest soaking it in clear olive oil for a year or so. Less if it is a mild cleaning. Acetone works to remove some spotting from a coin, but this has to be done carefully. Acetone carefully applied can remove those fresh fingerprints. Sometimes you only let the fumes or… -
Re: opinon on this 69-s ddo1
Whatever is sent to you in the mail, it won't be this coin, more likely an empty package or a plain old 69s cent. Next step would be to sue you for switching/stealing coins from this poor young girl that is grieving for her daddy. How does a PCGS MS64 6-figure coin get cracked out and end up in a newbie's hands? Answer, it… -
Re: Will You Sell some coins and buy a Harley this Spring?
I was wiped out on a Honda back in HS. Had my helmet yanked tight and the crash apparently blew it off like butter. Pickup turn left right in front of me and knocked me out cold until reached the Hospital. Lenthly hospital recovery. A couple yrs later, a car of pyshco's tried running me over on a high speed chase late at…
