Re: I think that American Silver Eagle dollars are going to be the Morgan Dollars of future collectors
<< <i> << <i>One thing to consider is that many collectors like to collect coins that they grew up with. That's why Lincolns are so popular. 19Lyds also mentioned collectors getting Morgans as kids. Over time, more collectors may feel a greater attachment to ASEs as more kids get ASEs as gifts (e.g. from the US Mint in… -
Re: Check out this 1964 Kennedy Half PCGS PR69DCAM at Stack's!!!
My 68DCAM spare is better. This coin has a brown spot in front of his nose and a white milk spot above the I in Libert. My 68DCAM has a small white milk spot on the serif of the Y. My 69 DCAM is definitely better. BUT, it IS very possible this spot occured after the slabbing. Probably still a nice coin, but, not a 69DCAM… -

Re: I wonder why this 1954-S Frankie didn't make a 66
I'm really fussy when it comes to Franklins. If this coin were in an MS-64 holder I won't buy it. The toning looks milky and there are unattrative milk spots. There are marks on the cheek. On this scan I can't tell if it has bell lines or not. Overall the eye appeal on this piece does not turn me on. Franklin half dollars… -
Re: Any questions
Amigo/circubit, We've actually been acumulating spotted coins...for analysis and in an attempt to develop a spot policy. We've now done that and we'll be publishing how spots effect grade, what we do about, etc. guidelines in the next week or two. We're also processing all spot reviews now. Bochiman, We wish we could solve… -
Re: Test to see what cleans White Ashy areas on ASEs
Ricko, that was what I thought initially as well....but I don't think he is talking about actual milk spots (OP....correct me if I am wrong). Looking at the photo, it looks more like areas where the finish is "missing" (ie....contact with another coin making the spot shinier than the rest). I've seen that in a number of… -
Re: PCGS MS70 ASE TOP POP
milk spotting describes what can happen to a clean, non spotted ASE, even graded MS 69 or 70 initially it is clean after several months, or years it develops unsightly milk spots (white spots) which ruin the appearance of the coin and make its owners very unhappy and devalue the coin GREATLY no one has figured this out, so… -
Re: ever tempted.............................
<< <i>I totally agree but acetone wont help. Once the spots appear, they are there for good provided you are referring to milk spots which I assume you are. I've got two 1996 Silver Eagles graded 67 and 68 due to these nasty spots. >> Yup, the real challenge is to find a 1996 w/o milk spots. Those are the ones that go for… -
Re: New 1963 Proof Frankie, and a coin shop adventure
<< <i>Nice coin. I have a similar one that has a slight milky finish on both sides. I am thinking of sending it into NCS for conservation and then on the NGC for slabbing. It's a beauty if not for the haze. Would you do that????? Don't have camera to take pic's >> I'm hesitant to send a coin in for conservation. I've…
