PCGS MS70 ASE TOP POP

I am interested in the MS70 ASE'S that are top pop like the 1 lone ms70 from 1988 (his twin brother is the 1 ms70 1995image) or the 3 ms70's for each the 86,97,98. Anyone know the people that own these? Why arent these in registry sets? Dealers got 'em? Just curious.... New to the hobby image

I believe many of the coins you ask about have since spotted and are just "70" grade via the insert tag rather than the coins themselves now. PCGS has (and likely will) continued to honor its grade guarantee on these coins throughout the years. IMHO the coins should be sent to PCGS for PCGS' review to be taken off the market once and for all (as soon as possible) rather than marketed to new collectors unfamilar with the circumstances. On top of that, should PCGS pay its $50,000 reward money and find a method to slab pre-2006 Silver Eagles MS70 once again without spotting, the holders of these coins may only wish they had turned them into PCGS earlier as they watch the pops grow with true (spot-free) MS70 specimens. Just my 2 cents as usual. Wondercoin

What reward money are you talking about? (remember im a noobie)

Also, are you saying that pre 2006 ase's that are currently graded ms69 could be graded as ms70? Im not completely following what you are saying.

"Im not completely following what you are saying."

Excellent. When you 100% understand what I said in the previous post you will (IMHO) be in a much, much better position to consider pursuing the coins you have asked about. Until then.... be careful.

P.S. I believe you can do a simple search and read about PCGS' $50,000 reward.

Ryan, Search "milk spots/spotting" or something similar within the advanced search feature here in the US Coin Forum. It's a sad issue, but you'll learn alot.image

    milk spotting
describes what can happen to a clean, non spotted ASE, even graded MS 69 or 70
    initially it is clean
after several months, or years it develops unsightly milk spots (white spots)
which ruin the appearance of the coin
and make its owners very unhappy
    and devalue the coin GREATLY

no one has figured this out, so far

I believe prior to 2006, the graders were allowed to east their milk and cookies in the grading room. They have since stopped this practice...problem solved. image

Just kidding, but it would be nice to get the $50K reward. I am surprised NCS doesn't have a method to resolve this issue.

I suspect, as Wondercoin touched on, that the pre 2006 MS70 ASE's listed in the pop. report ( total of 11 ) are non existant or PCGS screwed up in their pop. report. I've never heard of or have I seen one for sale over the years.
BTW ... I believe that the 3 top Registry Sets with PCGS in the MS ASE category do not have one listed among them......

To be clear - I believe most, if not all, of the coins in the pop report still "exist". They are simply not "70's" due to the spotting of the coins AFTER they were originally graded properly by PCGS. Wondercoin
