An Accented Hair Kennedy that is beautiful, yet sad.
Got this one in yesterday: Monster mirrors, cameo obverse, deep cameo reverse, and not a hairline on the coin anywhere. Ah, but alas, it's plagued by micro milkspotting. Russ, NCNE -
Milk spot eagles
Would you consider a designation for MS eagles that would be a MS70 if not for the possible milk spots? MS69ms maybe? Or a time limit to regrade them as MS70 if there are no milkspots? Thanks. Jim -

Yeah, it's likely not a big money winner or anything but it reminds me just how cool these look when they're frosty. So that milkspot on the obverse is likely there to stay? -

Sorry to see that. Looks like classic milkspotting. Prior to slabbing, a rinse in acetone would have likely stabilized it, but otherwise, looks like this is one of the affected ones -

Picture Linkified!! Sorry, got carried away with the scanner. Out of the 10, 7 are going to PCGS. 3 have real heavy milkspots. They are now on E-Bay!!! -

How bout a good study on milkspotting on ASE's? How to avoid it, what specifically causes it, etc. I know there are lots of theories on this, but has there been actual research done? Just curious. -

All proofs can spot. But the difference is that in most cases they can be removed. That is not the case with MS SAE. Those milkspots are forever. The 2004 above looks like it was dipped and not neutralized (rinsed) properly. -

i don't think i'll be collecting SAE anymore either but it has nothing to do with milkspots. they are nice looking coins but very few will ever appreciate higher than their melt value. -

I've used MS70 for haze. rinse like crazy with distilled water. But, some others are probably much more knowledgeable than I, so .... Milkspots, I have never heard of a way to remove them. -

I don't like it. Not only does it appear to have horizontal hairlines across both the obverse and reverse, but it also has an obverse milkspot by LIBERTY and reverse damage through UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
