Re: Sale of PCGS assets very confusing?
Oreville, I am sure you are correct on your points and Cu is much better off without these divisions. What it looks like is Coin World just did a bad job of reporting the story many of the points you, kollectorking, roadrunner and condor made were not brought out in the CW story. I am sure these big name executives demand… -
Re: 225th Anniversary Enhanced Uncirculated Coin Set (17XC) (SOLD OUT! )
First off, I like the effects that they've created with the more sophisticated finishing techniques, and I think that the coins are attractive in the photos. But seriously, BRJ - this set creates another set of keys within existing series, or worse - another subseries of medallic art that further divides a shrinking… -
Re: Should all cleaned coins be labelled "Questionable Provenance"?
<< <i>Since cleaning removes some of the original metal ions from the face of the coin, why shouldn't that affect the coin's original status, and more significantly, it's "history"? Dip it enough, and it's just a metal disk. Where's the fine line? Why should there be a line, at all? Who can say how many trips to the bath… -
Re: So TeleTrade is now using "Stock Photos" as well,,,,,

My intent is not to "BASH Teletrade" but to hopefully get them to see the light. I have purtchased many, many coins from them starting way back when you got a paper catalog in the mail with photos of the coins and bid over telephone lines,,,,, before there was internet bidding. I can see that to a corporate executive this… -
Re: Why NGC kicks PCGS' butt
Consistency, I like the concept. Execution has been a little suspect at both companies IMO. Perhaps consistency is a little too much to wish for. If consistency really existed, no holdered coin would ever upgrade or downgrade. Do the services apply their grading standards? Loosely. Have any of you ever seen a PR69 holdered… -
Wrong Forum - sorry - updated in page 1

Now that The Obama says we are friends, will you start collecting coins from Cuba? Before I became public enemy #1, no one here probably even noticed me. YOU (not me) have turned this thread into the obsolete Open Forum, so I'm putting it on the back burner to fade away. I used to post here years ago and recently came back… -
Re: PCGS delays. What are you doing to protest?
Russ, you actually are totally incorrect. Read the website, the submission form. "2 days guaranteed" "7 days guaranteed" "15 days guaranteed" I am not a lawyer; I have paid for two sons to go to law school but I do not have to be an attorney to understand that the free grade certificate is a compensation for PCGS's failure… -
Of possible interest to collectors of East Asian Coins
This is not yet available. The New Journal of East Asian Numismatics In the second half of 1994, Bruce W. Smith and Michael Chou began publication of the Journal of East Asian Numismatics for the benefit of collectors world wide. Through 1998, eighteen issues were published, containing important original articles, reprints… -
Re: Teletrade still is up and running
I'm confused by all the confusion here about what is going on. They had a Press Release back in July about this. There was a thread here discussing it. Subsequent to that, Spectrum said they would spin out AMark into a separate company and take SBG private. SBG would have all the Spanish lawsuit issues (fact) and potential… -
1936(d) Lincoln Cent (NGC-MS68RD): No PCGS

I was just consigned a 1936(d) Lincoln Cent grading NGC-MS68RD. The online NGC pop is 2/0 and the PCGS pop is 0. Here is another perfect example of the reality of the PCGS Lincoln Cent market today. PCGS grades very few copper Wheats in MS68RD. If PCGS were to grade a 1936(d) Lincoln in MS68RD grade (and the coin was nice…
