Here's a very cool piece that I just had the pleasure of photographing. One of two known, this obverse die trial for the 1804 dime was struck, most likely outside the mint, on a copper large cent planchet. -

In some instances a numerical grade would probably work fine. In others it would almost certainly create a mess. I keep thinking back to that gold buffalo nickel. If I made the same cut on a common date buffalo nickel or gold piece, would it get a numerical grade? If not, then why? If the gold buffalo had 3 test cuts… -

NGC Type 2 CAM Franklin value help please...
I am considering purchasing a 1956 type 2 NGC PF 67 cam franklin from my local shop. It's a bit pricey ($200) and I was wondering just what the added value of a type 2 variety is or should be. I got my ANA renewal notice and... does the ANA think I can't do math?
I don't mind renewing for a number of years, and I think there's generally an assumption that the longer term you pay for, the cheaper it is. Well it seems the ANA either forgot that or thinks I can't do basic math... or are they building in future dues increases before the dues are actually increased? I could really save… -

What would you grade this one? Note that the plastic case does not say "Uncirculated." This one has very nice toning on the right 1/3 of the obverse.
