Re: SPEAKING OF WIWAG
wolfbear -- Thanks for the heads up on "this guy". One would think that after the Enron fiasco, investors would learn to diversify their investments, but this person seems fixated on CU. After reading his 8 messages -- each devoted to PSA/CU, it somehow seemed like deja vu all over again. Gosh, the writing patterns and… -

Re: How Much Confidence Does a CAC Sticker Give You When Bidding/Buying Sight Unseen?
As an internet bidder, who has to rely on pictures that aren't always 100% accurate, I always think to myself, "Well, Heritage probably sent it to CAC first and they consciously chose not to certify it". It's as simple as that, and I bet most people think the same thing. They've seeped into your subconscious, even if you… -

<< <i>"...If the buyer then makes up a false claim with his credit card company about the contents of a package or quality of merchandise, Paypal will take away your money. Price Gouging - One Reason Collectors Dislike Slabs

I know there are many reasons, but this is jarring. Slabs and the false concept of 'top pop' used to justify high prices. This seller lists coins at twice, five or even twenty times what you could buy them for, and yet makes hundreds of sales. Why? Is it that some people are too rich to care? If so, they can drop me $6300… -
Re: Understanding a Collection
I take it that all of these coins are certified. If so, why did someone waste so much money on grading and shipping fees? There is a "worst known" registry. I don't understand completely although the tough aspect of it is finding very low grade pieces which are not damaged enough to get "details" grades. The coins here do… -

Re: Does CAC cut slack for rare coins.
You clearly know Buffalos and we can agree to disagree. I don’t think a buffalo with that pancaked an obverse strike (the 6 is partial and the braid detail missing entirely) should be anything better than 63. JA did not sticker that coin (although I have no idea if it was ever submitted to CAC). I fall back on a Mark Feld… -

Numismatic History – John Chalmers and His Coins

Let me start by saying that I welcome any comments or corrections that noted experts, such as Pistareen, ColonialCoinUnion, and novacaesarea, would like to make. They are far more knowledgeable on this topic than I am. John Chalmers Captain John Chalmers, Sr., was a goldsmith and silversmith who achieved prominence in…
