Post a coin that has either a runner, swimmer or bicycler on it.

My youngest daughter, 18, just got 5th place (for women) in the 2012 USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship. Needless to say, I'm very proud of her. Post a coin that has a runner, swimmer or bicycler on it.

Here are both my girls. The youngest one is on the right of the picture.

Cool. Although you requested a coin photo, I thought the below might be a better match
    image
    my daughter (age 14) when she took 4th place in the Ironkids Bread Triathlon National Championship (2003);
it was her second (mini) triathlon (her first was the 2002 race); it was discovered by her swim coach as something different to train for during the summer.
One of the kids on her swim team took first place in his age group!

I like Discobolus, which is on plenty of stamps, but I couldn't find it on a coin.
I found it on a watermelon sculpture, though! :-)

Congratulations to your daughter and to yourself for giving her the encouragement. I have some of the Atlanta Olympic coins with the swimmer, I know, not sure on the runner and bicycle. I just don't have pictures of them.

Great to see folks keeping in shape. Cute girls you dads have, just watch out!

I have done one sprint triathlon and about six indoor versions. I am amazed how competitive these events can be, even for me in the 50-54 age group. Swimming is my best event and biking my worst. It does add a bit of variety to lap swimmng and Master's meets.

Not nearly the caliber of the National Championship, BUT it was a moment of glory. Did they make a commemorative coin with "triathlon" on it when they did the other sports for the olympics? While not entirely coin-related, the finishers medals for marathons (and Ironman Tri's) can be really really neat. After doing my first marathon and getting a cool medal, I was hooked. So much so that it drove me to go around the country collecting more and more. The only bad part is you have to run 26.2 miles, or complete a 140.6 Ironman tri to get them. In totam, 42 marathons and 2 Ironmans. Buying off the bay is much, much easier!

Thanks for sharing. I am interested in seeing what others come up with!!

Here's one with one of the most inspiring runners of all time:
    image
That's Stan Witten, Senior Engraver Royal Canadian Mint, next to the Terry Fox One Dollar Coin.

For those of you who don't know who Terry Fox was, here's a snippet from his Wikipedia entry:
"In 1980, with one leg having been amputated, he embarked on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 mi), and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy. The annual Terry Fox Run, first held in 1981, has grown to involve millions of participants in over 60 countries and is now the world's largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research; over C$500 million has been raised in his name."

And congrats to your daughter. 5th in that race is really impressive. It's a very competitive event. My wife and her 70+ year old mother are the star triathletes in my family. My mother in law has come in second place in the world duathlon (run-bike-run) championship two years in a row, and my wife has competed in quite a few national championship events. They're both racing at age group nationals this summer.

Congratulations to your daughter, SkyMan! I'll bet you are extremely proud.

I have two daughters myself and they are both Cross Country runners (one in high school and one in college).

We run together on weekends (when we can manage) and it is the best father/daughter time ever. Even better than those times years ago when I'd drag them to a coin show!

We run the Bolder Boulder 10k together here in Colorado every year and my oldest is going to get me out for my first Half Marathon this summer.

The girls pretty much stay out of trouble when they have to get up and run 6 miles every morning!
