I picked up a coupla brass skating rink tokens the other day at a CoinStar. Nice profile of a single roller skating shoe.
  • Good luck... I hope you find many more.
  • Hi,

Anyone remember the Taxi episiode where Jim buys a 1916 T1 25C in Gem BU and promptly uses it in the coffee machine?

    Best,
    Eric

No, I love when coins are featured on t.v./movies! Not coin related but I love the episode in which Jim, was at the Driving License Facility , Getting his License! What comedy!"SLOW DOWN..."image On the flip side of the comedy,RIP for Jeff Conway ,HE played the straight man on that skit.

Nice. I was getting cash out of the ATM just now when I saw the flash of a proof nickel as a guy standing next to me was feeding coins into the coinstar. I offered to buy what the machine ejected. He looked at me like I was stupid but then agreed. While he was finishing he said "Now you can't have THIS one" and flashed a proof dollar at me.

Didn't see the nickel again, but the machine kicked out two Canadian dimes and a proof 1976 quarter. Without getting a really good look, I offered him $1. He wanted $2. I didn't want to argue since it looked like one of the Canadian dimes was older. Turns out they were both modern. But the quarter was a 1976-S with a solid rim (weighs in @ 5.8 grams, so it should be 40%?) Though if my math is right the quarter isn't worth much more than $2 anyway.

It was only after I walked away that I realized that it was probably a 1976 silver proof set that had been busted open, so the dollar he flashed was almost certainly a 40% proof. Tried to find him in the parking lot but no dice.

Oh well. It's not the kill. It's the thrill of the chase image

40% bicentennial quarter weighs 5.75 grams and contains $2.42 worth of silver.

It is these stories that keep me checking the Coinstar in the local grocery mart. Some day... Cheers, RickO

I have found several silver dimes in the reject slot, but also - UNDER THE MACHINE!. Yes, you need to check under the machine. I had my 7 year old slid her little paw under the machine for what I thought was some Canadian 10c coin, but turned out to be a 1959-D Roosie. The problem with my 7 year old is that all finds become hers if she is anyway involved. I have found and lost several really decent finds because she happened to be with me.

My credit union has a coin counting machine and it costs me NOTHING to use...so after I search rolls of half dollars I take the junk to my credit union to dump. The machine is SLOW and things get stuck etc...so I always have someone from the bank open the machine and pull out all of the "spare change" and they give it to me...it just so happened that in this case there was the 62-D Dime in there. image

So, this is yet another way to "Check a Machine". Tell the person at the bank that you think you put more into the machine than what it counted and they will open the machine up and see if anything got stuck. image In my case there was a Half Dollar in there that the machine had not counted and it was stuck so we got that moved through as well.
