Selling Coins

Is there a good alternative to selling coins on ebay? A place to get away from fees? Still a good place to get a good price? Thanks.

Well you have asked a very hard question to answer.

I would simply say, it comes down to what you are selling.

Every option available is going to be the worst from some coins and the best for others.

  • Hey,

Heritage Auction at www.ha.com may be a good company to sell your coins. It is much more reputable then Ebay which means psychologically people will be more willing to pay closer to prices in price guides. Not sure about their fees. But, usually you get what you pay for.

BST No fees. I've had many great transactions there.

This, I've made some satisfying purchases there, I assume the sellers felt just as happy.

It depends on what you have to sell and your time horizon. If you have enough time, then eBay is the
best place to "hit it out of the ball park".!!! You can get away with over price easy on nice coins. Way better
than standing in line at a coin show just to hear some low-ball dealer's line of B.S. !! image

What I have noticed about eBay is you can price things crazy high and STILL be the lowest price on the list
and still walk away winning big !!

  • Thank you everybody, I really appreciate the responses.
  • I agree that the BST Forums here and at the NGC Forums are an excellent resource. I have sold a few coins through each forum.

Great Collections seems favorable from a seller's perspective (no seller's fee from hammer price on coins that realize more than $1000).

Heritage and Stacks/Bowers-Merena may be useful for more esoteric issues and especially for issues above $5,000.

Use ebay, and pay the fees for the great service and audience you get with them.

You will make the most going thru ebay.

Even with the fees, there's no better place to sell than Ebay, especially for coins with values between $1 to the low hundreds.

Items of over $1000, perhaps the BST or Heritage auctions are better.
