Just made the first 1960 Bugs Bunny - MS64FBL - Love the bunnies! Very heavy die polish on both obverse and reverse as well.

I never got these, where is the Bugs Bunny effect on the coin? Is it the thing that looks like a tooth coming out of the lip?

Yep. It really looks more like a vampire variety to me... but instead, called bugs bunny.

How many Franklin Half dates are currently known with the "Bugs Bunny" trait?

Congrats on the Pop 1 variety coin.

The pictures of the obverse and reverse are interesting.

Are the numerous, close together, lines that appear on the fields and devices on both sides of the coin the "die polish" that you mentioned? I ask this because I have a 1960 MS half dollar (D mint I think) that has similar lines on the top of the bust of Franklin only. You can only see these lines if you tilt/rotate the coin. The light has to hit the lines at a particular angle for the lines to appear and be visible. Other than these lines my half dollar is remarkably clean. It does not have the usual numerous marks, hits, dings you usually find on MS Franklins.

I have always assumed that my half dollar had been whizzed or otherwise tampered with. After seeing the picture of your coin in this thread, I am beginning to wonder if my coin has die polishing marks instead of Post Mint Damage.

Do the die polishing lines on your half dollar appear and disappear when you rotate or tilt same? Or are they always visible?

Yes... very heavy die polish both sides and the die polish lines by the chin are swirled... similar to the scribbles on 1921 Morgans. For the full listing of Bugs Bunny varieties, check out Link

Thanks for the link... I'm a Franklin fan and there's a lot of decent info there.
  • Congrats on making the first 1960 at PCGS! The 1960 is a very nice example of a Bugs! Nice, bold clash!

    What a shame, the Bugs is a very Underrated coin!It should get more recognition,by far.Beautiful bugs,WindyCity. By the way,that's where I'm from,Chi-town.image

I'm a bit surprised it didn't gennie with that counting wheel? schmear on the bell. Or is that die polish as well?

    Nice find!

edit to add: I guess the FBLs show better from a different angle? because they sure are inapparent in the pic.
