what's that running from the top of the rim, down past the B and to the head??

    is it a raised line?
is it two different levels on either side of that line?

    and

does the line intersect that the raised part across the top of the head that you are talking about ???

No reason to be snide towards a new collector.
  • MSMorrisine - The line doesn't appear to be raised or to be two differennt levels. Thanks for inquiring.

Stealer - Thank you for defending me. I've been on this forum for a very short time and it seems like every time I get on, I get some wise-ass remark from someone. A little discouraging for a newbie coin collector.
  • I am thinking counting machine, mind not OCC, he is always a tool.

Thank you for posting and continuing the search. It's a fun hobby, though most of it's done in a solitary fashion, it's nice to come here to express ourselves and look for the answers from the pros that we seek when we find anomalies that may or may not be important discoveries.

Yeah, great advice - that's what we need, even more people to 'give it'.....frankly if some folks would tone down their remarks, there'd be less need for 'thick skin' - on a coin forum!

Margue. Don't let these guys get you down. And don't become discouraged. I have taken a beating in this fourm :-) but also I have learned a lot from everyone here. I've always learned the most from the teachers that I thought hated me.

There is a lot of knowledge here and everyone is willing to share what they have learned over the years. This is a good place to learn.

Don't let anyone get you down. Most of the people who are here offer great advice and information and contribute much to the forum. Those who offer only sarcastic remarks clearly demonstrate that they have nothing to offer except annoyance. Avoid them like you would step over dog poop on a sidewalk, and just keep on going. Also, if you have your Private Messages function turned on, get ready to block those individuals when they start attacking you through the PM's. Just remember, the purpose of the forum is to teach, learn, and enjoy. Welcome aboard!

I want to add this opinion for what it is worth.

It is definitely PMD (Post Mint Damage) but I think that the damage came from a machine that crimps the end of a coin roll. The stack in the tube was higher than normal, do to maybe a bent coin, 41 coins in the roll or maybe debris in the roll and the spinning machine head that roll crimps the ends of a shotgun roll did the damage. This would also account for the letters in LIBERTY to look deformed...also wanted to add that this coin was probably back in circulation after the PMD and has concealed some of the positive identifiers.

  • Thanks to everyone for your opinions and advice. I started this new hobby very recently and find myself rather obsessed with it. My husband thinks I'm nuts as I spend ALOT of my spare time staring at coins. I had a good starting point with pocket change collected in jars over the years. I know they aren't going to be the most valuable but they do provide a learning tool for the novice collector. My skin has thickened. I'll give it back next time but I do soooo appreciate those who are willing to share their knowledge and help me figure out what I'm doing!

  • mrpaseo - Someone else mentioned the same line. It appears to me to be a stain. THANKS so much for the great picture and the comments you posted. That was awesome!

Mr. Costner's remarks had me choked up myself, TwoSides......and like you, for me, that's saying something.
    I'll come up with something.

walkerguy21 get the stick outta yer bunghole.
"toning down our remarks" to a dull lifeless point is just silly...we are here to share and learn. true that. BUT comradery and a good sense of
humour is the glue that holds us together as a group of FRIENDS.

but if there's no fun to be had on a "coin forum" why do it?
now don't go all sensitive on me and cry or anything....yes!...on a PUBLIC forum you do need a thicker skin!

because in light of some of the questions that you may ask...you might not get get the answers that make you all fuzzy and warm inside.

    be boring if you want.

i'll have my fun with or without you.
