Q: what would happen if you sent a coin to PCGS/NGC as, say, an Express grading and...

...it turned out to grade as a $15,000 coin, instead of the $500 coin you thought it was, due to the grade being better than you thought...
Would PCGS/NGC ask you to pay the difference in grading tiers after the fact?

If it turns out to be worth more due to the grade, you benefit.
. . . . at least that's what I was told. . .
Now I could think of a few scenarios that this "shouldn't" apply (such as if you inherit a coin), but not sure how to deal with that.

I would be more worried, that the coin is being shipped back with only $500 insurance. I would call and find out what is the best way to handle it.

They'll probably get on your case if they think you are trying to push pricey coins through on a lower service level.
What amount do you think PCGS is legally liable to pay you for the coin?
Or as David once said at what point do you want us to buy the coin he seemed to be aiming that remark at someone IIRC.
