DPOTD recommendation for harasha

for his post in this thread, despite the fact that it's a quote, on an OT subject and that it was posted in a hijacked thread. image

I've watched most of the discussion on tv, without subtitles or translation, and I still missed it. It is indeed a great analogy.

There's been some refreshing new blood since ~2007, that in my eyes has raised the level of this forum, and who came with, or have since built extraordinary collections, that are presented with great photography and excellent comments. Needless to add how often I have thought that they deserve this meaningless award. image We all know who they are so I'm not mentioning any names for fear of forgetting someone. On the other hand, I have a feeling that several oldtimers are going through difficult phases , for a variety of reasons that can be psychological, physical, financial, loss of interest, and that's without mentioning the sudden and sometimes premature passing of some beloved members. Finally, others' lives have taken a different turn and they don't have anymore interest or time available for this forum.

Anyway, I believe that it is especially during these harder times, that we shouldn't let these awards, or other specific uplifting Darkside customs fall into oblivion. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's been a very long time since we have awarded it, and I've decided to spare 'kat , who traditionally chooses the recipients, from putting on a makeup, similar to Billy Crystal's who was asked to yet again present the Oscars after 7 years, and do it myself instead. image

In this particular case, the choice of an oldtimer is purely coincidental but not irrelevant to the fact that harasha only posts when he has something truly worth reading. All I need is a few mercy posts of agreement, or disagreement and it's done.

A good 4-5 years ago or whenever it really was, there was a post that I thought I had started that many folks here chimed in on and the whole DPOTD is open to given by anyone to a thread that is well written or has images and is insightful

and that is really the way it should be- good to read the concept is alive and has survived- I think it has been award over 30 times- probably closer to 40 now

harasha has psted numerous images of medals, coins and tokens over the years that the honor is long overdue-

    Congrats

I second - great posts and wonderful person!
    Habsburg Talers

TalerUniverse.com is a curated numismatic project dedicated to the silver talers, crowns, and medals of the Habsburg Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, spanning the 16th–18th centuries. The collection emphasizes historically significant issues, rare mint varieties, and high-grade NGC/PCGS examples, presented with detailed historical context, scholarly references, and high-resolution photography. TalerUniverse aims to serve both as a private collection showcase and a growing reference resource for collectors, researchers, and students of early-modern European coinage.

Harasha has been one of the few constants on these forums over the last 5 years I've been calling this place a numismatic home, both in quality of posts and in quantity of great medals and tokens.

    Seconded!

I am sorry for being the downer in this thread, but what in the heck does this have to do with coins? I do not have a problem with back patting on the forums, but I do not see the relevance in this DPOTD, regardless of who started it and who it goes to if it is not relevant to the topic. No slight to harasha, whatsoever. Am I wrong? If I am then I am sorry. Please discuss. image

DPOTD = Darkside Post Of The Day, only we award it twice a year on average.

You're not a downer. You're free to disagree, but I'm glad that the majority accepted it so easily. Harasha has a very specific type of humor and a great taste in medals. Plus, he has an excellent knowledge of the NY subway. image If you don't agree because it really has nothing to do with coins, consider it a lifetime award, or as 'kat put it, an honor long overdue.

I tried to find a photo of one medal which illustrated a folktale about a peasant who showed compassion to a snake. Things did not go well for the peasant. However, I could not locate it. Instead, to keep with the original theme of monster slaying, here is a St. Michael medal:

More Geese Than Swans Do Live

Is that an innuendo against the anti foie gras movement?

I don't see a mention of this incredibly difficult and honorable DPOTD award in your sigline yet. Unless you think that only mushroom and myself are self absorbed weirdos who have left that count there for years. image
