Find a penny, pick it up.....

You all know the rest. Found this lying on the street while walking to pick the tots up from school. Just thought I'd share. Thanks

    So, that's a double strike?

Great pick up! Too bad it was on the street rather than in change from the supermarket or something...

That is a fun find. Now, I wish I had picked up that Memorial beneath my feet in the Lowes
parking lot yesterday. But, alas I let it lie.

Great find, I've been searching for that one ever since reading about them back in the day, both in circulation and rolls from the bank, never found one...and to think one could be picked up as an eyeball find is amazing-- gives me hope yet! image

I think it`d be cool slabbed even labled as genuine or authentic

I picked up three in a parking lot this morning, but didn't check the dates or lettering. Once I see the Memorial reverse I usually don't bother to go any further or put on my glasses- I just stick 'em in my pocket.

You've got a doubly sharp eye to not only pick up that penny but notice its VERY cool secret. Awesome! image

Oh, and I for one don't find the "roadkill" aspect of that coin so heartbreaking. OK, so you were too late to save it, perhaps, but now it's unique and has a great story. You should cherish that one. It's kinda like the "Ice Cream" specimen of the 1894-S dime, which ended up in circulation. I'd rather have that circulated example than the finest known one.

BTW, my dirt road "penny" pickup from last April was similarly intriguing, if not very valuable monetarily.

Amazing that you noticed this through all the rough spots that would seem to overwhelm the eye with a rough glance (which is very likely what I would have done had I picked it up) and like LordM- it would have gone right into the old pocket.

Congratulations on the great find!!! Lots of character with that coin, and a story too...

Just an astonishing find. I guess the cherries really are still out there in circulation, the trick now is to find them before someone else casually throws them away.

It has wear that would usually reveal the zinc core.
    What does it weigh.

I don't have a scale, but using a pencil and a ruler, the weight matched a zinc lincoln.
