    Huge! There was a thread with a link to an auction a while back but cannot recall how high that auction ended.

    edited to add: I was mistaken, the thread I was referring to was for a 7 oz Engelhard.
    Still I think these 2 ozers demand a big premium.

    There was an ebay auction awhile back for a 2 ozer that was bid up to $1,800+ but did not meet reserve. I have not seen it relisted since then.

    I'm not a fan of huge premium bars, but even I think that one's pretty cool. Top tier name, serial number, old pour, odd ounce weight, Canadian Bull (?). It's got everything a metal geek could want image

    $2,000 is about the going rate for this bar.

    Just like in coins, scarity. A lot more collectors for these then supply. Like way more. If you think of these as bullion you would be barking up the wrong tree. Silver could go to $10 or to $50 and the price of these would be unaffected by that movement. It's really not premium we are talking about on these items. I love them and wish I had more.

    I remember that auction, and all along I knew it was a case of a seller "testing the market". image
    There's no way in heck it was/is worth anything remotely close to that. $1000 absoltue TOPS! Any more than that I couldn't live with myself. Show me a factual mintage and I might go $1250. Hate to say it but if you pd more than that OGIM, you got f'in RIPPED an new one!

    Hard to say since we don't know what he paid for this. At least I don't.

    There were several bidders from here that were involved to the ~$1500 level if I am not mistaken.

    Rich, if you can find any 2 oz poured Engelhard bars similar to the two known I will gladly pay you $1,000 each for all you find.

    Perhaps we are approaching these bars from different perspectives. I am working on an Engelhard collection and I am always on the lookout for new varieties. When silver approaches $50 again some will view it as an opportunity to make a profit. I view higher silver prices as an opportunity to pick up rare bars as they come out of the woodwork. After I retire the whole subject might be worthy of an article or monograph.

    As far as prices paid are concerned, I never ask and I don't tell.

    If I could have purchased the Nov 2011 (discovery) bar for $2,000 I would not have not considered myself ill served. I was thunderstruck when I first learned of the existence of 2 oz Engelhards and naively wondered if the photograph was photoshopped. The bidder's list for that auction reads like a Who's Who of poured bar collectors. If that bar had met reserve (say around $1,500) there would have been a frenzy of bidding. That bar could have sold well north of $2,000.

    There are no factual mintages. The lack of factual mintages is not hindering me. Anyone interested might learn more by visiting Markham, Ontario to find people who worked for Engelhard during their bull horns phase.

    There is no Official Red Book for bar collectors and no easy way to gauge value and rarity. You have to rely on experience. This PCGS Precious Metals forum is the closest thing we have to a "College of Engelhard Knowledge". Bars are sometimes discussed at Kitco but most posting there, with a few notable exceptions image, like their silver cheap, stamped and shiny. The average person who comes across a $5 gold coin is wise enough to know they have something valuable. 99.9% of the public would reasonably choose the $5 gold coin over a 2 oz, 4 oz or 7 oz Engelhard bar. Only a relative small group of dedicated bar collectors would choose wisely and select the bar.

    The scarce bars are out there in ones and twos. The trick is to find them before they get sold as bullion and shipped to the refiners.
