Long Beach show in 2 weeks
I love this show, but it has been a quiet one for awhile. I wonder why. I hope it doesn't go away.

A buddy asked about buying some 90% silver, maybe $40 in face value ($900 to $1000 in value). Anyone have suggestions as to dealer(s)? It's been a while since I bought silver at the Long Beach show, and one or two names I remember are no longer on the dealer list. I understand that local dealers would be much more likely to have rolls at a decent price, than the fly-in dealers.

However, it's presently being run INTO THE GROUND. It's sad it was always a great show. Maybe they'll go to twice a year or something (skip the summer). I don't like it but it's better than it going away completely....bummer.

I'll be there for the duration. I too hope that this show doesn't go the way of Santa Clara but since it is almost the only major coin show left in the state I think will will survive in spite of some obvious issues.
I will be there Wednesday through Saturday but at a new table location.

Hoard the keys.
Parking last time was $10, and the lot was full right underneath the lobby... had to park around the block and it still cost $10.
Junk silver from dealers will be priced too high if this show is anything like the last few. You'll like find a better price if you find another collector wanting to sell and meet up with them to do a deal. Since you have a couple of weeks, a BST post looking for a seller couldn't hurt too much.

<< <i>I was there last June on Friday. Pretty dead. Avoiding a tax nexus with California is probably a big reason for some to stay away. >>
With Santa Clara gone the state nexus issue isn't as big of a factor anymore. Even when it was there were multiple ways to get around it legally.

I'm in the same camp here. Always liked this show, partly because it is the only one I consistently go to.
Bring me DMPL's if you have some!
<< <i>The only time that I went was 1982,I did not like it and never went back. >>
Hmmm... I went out to California with a blonde gal around that time who felt the same way. Not that this has anything to do with coins.

And it needs to go ALL DAY Saturday!
The Feb show could be a great way to get out of the cold and visit SUNNY southern CA.!
I know that is the main reason I go , is to get out of the cold fog of the north and warm up.
They should promote the whole California experience to get more people from out-of-state
to attend, and encougare familys to take a vacation here.
and since I'm there?

That would help. Going to this show on a Saturday is almost a complete waste of time. Probably a third to half of the dealers seem to leave the show on Friday and don't even show up on Saturday at all. And even though the show is advertised as being open until 5pm on Saturday, the show is effectively over with many dealers starting to pack up around noon or 1pm and pretty much all of them closing up by 3pm.
I think it would help the show tremendously if there was free admission on Saturday. It's not really fair to those members of the public who can't come to the show during the week to have to pay $8 per person to get in for only a couple of hours of show...

They used to be open on Sunday and it was the same problem. So I'm not sure what they can do about it...I do agree with the free admission thing.
Maybe now that Santa Clara is gone more dealers will come...not having to worry about the CA tax status or whatever. I dunno...it's just kind of a bummer the show doesn't draw the dealers as much as it used to.
