with an obverse like that it is essential to see the reverse to GTG

Without seeing the reverse, I'd say 67PL. DMPL wouldn't surprise me though.

Guys there's no way that's a 67. Of course, without seeing the reverse, it's IMPOSSIBLE to grade the coin but that being said, there are hits on the cheek. Nice strike not perfect but very good. A lot of frost breaks too maybe from stacking or something who knows. I'd say 65 with a downside risk of 64 on a really bad day. Of course, DMPL based on the image too.

MS-67, if the back is as pristine as the front. Frost breaks on the cheek are minimal.

BST transactions: Even a few with OFR members. Imagine that.

    66PL.
Too many frost breaks in the hair for 67, IMO. Too much frost and/or flow lines in the fields for DMPL.
    When in doubt, don't.

64 by just looking at the obverse?
67 all day long by the obverse (may haps 66 on a bad day) and maybe a different ball game seeing the reverse.

    Here is the reverse.

Are you sure that's the reverse? The obverse appears to be of a coin in a 2x2 and the reverse is a coin in a GSA holder. In any case I would say MS66.

65+ That reverse holds it back, unfortunately. But that obverse is super nice!!!

If that's a 65, my current 65's must be 62's or less! Do you really have a 65 without a single mark on the cheek? I'll buy it sight unseen! LOL Again!

Another one of those one sided 1880-S DMPL Morgan's.

I would give it MS64+ with a CAC sticker image

Rough crowd here! MS-64? COME ON!

I will buy any and all of your self graded coins at 64 or 65 price all day long folks! (As long as you grade them the same as this one!!!)

The 64-66 grades are rediculous. I saw the PCGS MS-69 PL coin, and it did nothing like this! Not for me anyway! HAHA.
  • DCWDCW Posts: 7,602 ✭✭✭✭✭
Not my series, but I have to believe that is better than 65. Look at that cheek!

Actually, they are not ridiculous. They are grades from a photo, not inhand.
Grading from photos is not perfect and many things can appear, or not appear, to be happening to the coin in an image.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Man, grade revealed while I pondered. Snooze and lose, great coin!

    Seriously?

Now that you see the grade??? That's an older holder to boot.

How could ANYONE grade that 64-65?

Pictures are also good I think???

From the image, it appears the lower cheek and neck were thumbed prior to submission. But who knows what it looks like in hand.
  • coinkatcoinkat Posts: 23,804 ✭✭✭✭✭
There is something a tad off with the overall look- TDN could easily be right- an in hand review is really required

This is why you can't grade from a picture! image
