Registry madness--1909-VDB lincoln AU-58

Did anyone here buy this coin? Sometimes I think that people are just too much in a rush. There is nothing attractive to me about this 1909-VDB. The corrosion just ruins the piece entirely. Personally, I would not pay 75 cents for it, let alone $75. I would rather just wait for a more attractive example and pay a little more, and if none came along then I would do without it. Maybe I just don't understand registry sets. The buyer paid for the label. The coin sucks.

but not much different than someone paying $600+ for an AU58 steel cent last year...

I think you should be happy not everybody wants to collect the same things as you do.

Well, Bob, if somebody here did buy it, do you really think they would admit it based on your denigration of them and the coin? I see that Carnegie class is not working out too well for you.

But maybe due to his honesty that buyer who could be a newbee will now return it because of his direct approach. >>
But what so many people ignore is that there is a difference between be honesty and insult. You don't have to denigrate somebody to honest or to educate.

Which is harder to find? The AU58 by a factor of a hundred at least. This is no different than P-01s going for more than Goods - when something gets popular and is hard to find, the price goes up.
Just see what I'll pay for rattler 65RB 1909 cents!
<< <i>I'd think if they could afford to pay "too much" for these au58 coins then they could afford to just do the regular registry. It seems to defeat the purpose of the everyman sets. >>
Ohhh geeeez. All this over $75? Lolol

Astrorat,
I have no problem with what he said or how he said it, from how I see what he wrote he stated his opinion and told how he felt about the coin and that is exactly what I need to hear and read, that is why I come on to these boards to learn. Hey if he didn't pull any punches so what, we aren't perfect in how we write, I think it is better to state it how he did then to pull any sugar coat it and make it to light where the reader or in this particular case the ebay buyer won't get the message. In this case the writer was loud and clear and I personally feel that is a good thing, it needs to be said and it needs to be understood. The ebay buyer wasted his hard earned money with this one and he still can return it if he chooses. I just don't think he was as harsh as you describe and yes too harsh isn't necessary at all but I don't pick that up here with this one. But I have no problem at all with you stating your opinion either, I am sure many will agree with you too, your take is just as valid. >>
Fair enough ...

Sez you. Not everybody values any particular coin exactly the same. I'm sure somebody could be found who would say that you've wasted your hard earned money on one (or more) of your purchases, too.

Sure, they're harder to find because an AU58 isn't worth the certification fees!!! Well, maybe now they are
Also, any MS66RD can be turned into an AU58 if you really want. But you can't turn an AU58 back to an MS66RD.

So what's the dollar cutoff for getting a pass from the Dreck Police?
<< <i>To each his own!! >>
To a degree. But as someone who liked collecting this grade before the Everyman set distorted the market, while they have a right to pay moon money for the right grade on the holder, I have a right to express disappointment with respect to how the market has been turned upside down on PO-1 and AU-58 coins.
