I crumbled for this seated half

I've always liked darker, gunbarrel-gray coins with the devices highlighted by lighter toning, that classic two-tone look of original circulated silver coins. Even though this coin was priced $25-30 over standard retail pricing, I couldn't allow this seated half to get away. Hopefully it will be as nice in hand as it appears in these photos.

    The clear prongs aren't as distracting as the white ones. Nice coin.

    Terrific coin. That's just the way I liked mine to look when I dabbled in this series.
    My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

    I prefer VF35-XF45 coins myself, but will buy lower grades if I'm struck by the coin's originality and look.

    Many collectors prefer the well used appearance of old coins. A collection should be a reflection of what the individual likes, not what will sell. Cheers, RickO

    that coin is an absolutely cherry. Gorgeous. And, like everyone here says, you can't buy these at sheet levels. Take a look at the nice run of Seated and Barber coins that just sold in the Stacks-Bowers sale this week. Not a coin at sheet in PCGS circ grades I'd say. In some cases I bid double and triple sheet and still lost out.

    The Cameo look on that coin is real nice. It looks almost flawless for the grade.

    It was a BIN on Ebay for $125. It was on Ebay and on my "to watch" list for 6 days. I thought the price was a bit high for a common date SLH, but the coin "kept nagging at me". I finally realized that I couldn't let such a nice coin get away for a measly $30 over book value.

    One of my favorite LSH$ was of this date and color, only someone had put a piece of tape across it(I am guessing).

    I wonder if the dealer was playing games and bought the coin back. There is no feedback for the sale. You'd think the buyer would leave some positive feedback for such a sweet deal.
